East side entrance to Foodarama (formerly Randall's) grocery at the junction of Victory and Antoine.

A long way to go to  exchange a few coins !,  you could take small amounts

at a time to 7-11 i think they always looking for change.

To exchange coins at 7-11 wouldn't you have to have them rolled up according to the accepted  amount for Thailand?

Certainly for the satang or 1  or 2 baht coins the task far exceeds the reward at least IMHO.

The person at the counter would have to open up the rolled up packets,to count them,
anytime I have excess change I just hand over say 100 THB in coins the person counts

the coins, and gives me notes,    rewards ,the OP is just trying to get rid of his coins.

The OP could just put 100 THB worth's of coins in a plastic bag,and hand it over as

part of the bill for his weekly shop (if he does shop),unless he has 10,000's of THB in

coins he will soon get rid of it,and try and tender the correct amount when paying

bills so the coins don't build up again, OR he could just put it  in charity boxes which

are just about everywhere.

Tops Supermarket is always looking for satangs.  Just bring them to their Customer Service counters and be prepared to wait while they count them out.  Doesn't matter if you've already counted and bagged them.  They want to check your work.  Good plan is to drop them off, go do shopping and come back and take their word for how many satangs you dropped off.

Another good plan for how to deal with your loose change is to adopt a "Change for Children" owl bank from Chiang Mai International Rotary Club.  Simply put feed your change into the owl and enjoy the nice clunk sound until it's full. Then bring the owl to a meeting of Chiang Mai Expats Club or the CMI Rotary Club, where you can exchange it for a new hungry owl.  The Rotary club members will use the contents of your owl for their children's projects and you'll be happy knowing your loose change is going to a good cause.

Great suggestion!

I wonder what the limit is to that approach?

Do you think that's a common Tops Supermarket approach?

And in reply to worgeordie I never carry change so I always seem to end up with change on my countertop.

How does it get onto your countertop if you don't carry it there?

Sent from my iPod touch using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

When I am handed change for paper currency I place that change on a countertop.

I honestly only carry coins if I plan to take a songtau.

I hope this clarifies any questions for you and George..

Yes, but what do you do when you have a big pile of coins, a few thousand bahts worth ?

I take my big bag to the 7/11 . What else are we talking about? The last was 3 or 4 thousand baht.

Do you ask them to change it into notes or do you buy something ?
