NONG KHAI, 17th January 2018 (NNT) - More than 60,000 bootleg items have been destroyed by Nong Khai customs officials. The counterfeits are said to have cost the economy nearly 56 million baht.

Regional Customs Bureau 2 Director, Kritsada Thongthammachart, and a group of customs officials burnt 60,468 pirated items seized in 84 copyright infringement and import duty evasion cases.

Since last year, Nong Khai Customs Office destroyed more than 70,000 counterfeit items. The total damage to the economy has been estimated at 150 million baht.

Customs officers have been instructed to take legal action against those violating copyright and import duty laws to prevent further damage to the economy.

Looks like a pretty toxic fire, would not want to be down wind of that. While great for the press that show is not good for the environment.

Burning in the open air.  Is that just for show ?  Haven't they got access to an incinerater ?  So very 3rd world and bad for the people downwind.

I don't understand this.

70,000 bootleg items burned.

Total cost 150 million to the economy, or 56 million, take your pick.

Must have been very expensive items.

But if the articles are burned, how come they cost the economy?

More to the point, what about the goods that could be given away to the less fortunate in this country?? Pollute the environment and proceed to pat themselves for a job well done!! No more to be said really.
