The Trump administration did nothing about implementing economic policy until this year and they started with the tax cuts. The results speak for themselves. Prior to this year the country was rolling along with Obama recovery and growth. Now watch carefully and see what happens. Hint - there is going to be a lot more down than up.

The poll is about his first four year term. Nothing in it about a second one. It's a non scientific poll as well and some opponents think it's best if he finishes his first term often because his VP is very awful as well. Also the poll is not restricted to Americans.

Basically, stop the economic freefall, reduce the $1.3 trillion deficit created by Bush's final budget, and don't do anything stupid.  That was all he could accomplish given the obstruction of the Republican's in Congress.

 

Trillion dollar plus deficits are back under Trump, and it looks like they're here to stay.  A combination of an economic slowdown triggered by a trade war, inflation caused by higher prices of imports, and the resulting interest increases driving up the cost of the federal debt will push these deficits and the debt much higher.

International trade and economics are simple when you make no effort to understand them.

 

Let me try to explain one of the simpler aspects of trade deficits.  When the US runs fiscal deficits it needs to borrow money from somewhere.  It borrows the money from countries that have lots of US dollars from selling stuff to us.  These countries buy US treasuries to increase their currency reserves and stabilize their economies.  If you want to reduce the trade deficit, you need to reduce the US fiscal deficit. 

 

In short, the US needs to balance the federal budget and stop borrowing from other countries.  That's how we can eliminate our trade deficit.

 

In case you haven't been paying attention, Trump is running our fiscal deficit to scary new highs.
