Troops and police were urgently deployed to help motorists whose vehicles’ engines broke down on flooded Samut Prakan roads on Wednesday morning.

Pol Lt-Colonel Sathit Samarnparp, traffic inspector of North Samrong police station, instructed police from his station to direct traffic as the floods caused heavy congestion on main roads in the province.

And troops from the 2nd Battalion of the Second Infantry Division were deployed to help push broken-down vehicles out of the main traffic lanes.

Traffic police reported that major intersections in Samut Prakan, including Sri Thepa and La Salle, were under 20 to 30 centimetres of water, and many small vehicles had broken down because of the floods.

The Poo Chao Saming Prai intersection on Sukhumvit Road was under 10 to 20cm of water. The Thepparat road in front of Rajvinit Bang Kaew school was also flooded, causing heavy congestion in the area.

At some spots on Sri Nakharin road, motorists had to help one another pushing broken-down vehiclea off the road.
