Immigration at Suvarnabhumi Airport yesterday arrested a 26 year old Iranian woman who was travelling on a British passport.

Darya Sheida, from Tehran, had arrived in Thailand at Phuket on January 24th. She was using a passport in the name of a British national, Miss Mary Catherine Newland.

She got on flight PG 270 in Phuket to Bangkok and was then arrested before she was due to fly to London.

She told immigration that she bought the passport in Iran for $1,300 (40,300 baht). It came from an eastern European country, reported INN.

The news media reported that this was the third such arrest for travelling on false documents this year.

Police said this was a clear case of an individual using a third country to mask their true intentions.

Yep! I agree. It can be hard to swallow that an iranian looking woman would have a name like that.

Not sure what you are trying to say

Duh? I just stated that it was fairly easy to see that something was wrong when she tried to enter.

The passport could've been flagged as being stolen before she was going to board and Thai Immigration

were possibly informed by British Immigration. Assuming the passport is genuine.

Either way, she would've probably applied for refugee status once arriving in the UK.

Good to see she was nabbed before she arrived there.

Thai immigration didnt seem to notice that there was something wrong when She entered , because she got into Thailand , it was when She was leaving that there was a problem

So you saw what her appearance was like?  Where did you see those photos or did you just see the same pics as everyone else which showed almost none of her face?  Duh, indeed.

Only to be told that British citizens cannot apply for refugee status in the U.K. :)

Yes there can't be many Iranians called Mary.

Or maybe, perhaps, she hoped to enter the UK, chuck the fake passport, then claim refugee status for all those lovely free handouts?

The Iranian population is as a whole is "white", the same can't be said anymore of the GB. I have known  many absolutely stunning Iranian girls, speaking unaccented French and/or English.

You should leave home sometimes...

Just one more reason to get the #%$$# out of the EU, its common Knowledge UK passports are available for even less than this is the Eastern Block countries. Its not xenophobic or racist...its just common sense in todays world of mad terrorists that security is of the utmost.

And GB, was important in this thread how?

For your informtion I´ve left home earlier than you for sure. Have travelled to most of the european countries and a big part of asian world including Iran, Irak, Pakistan and Afganistan.
So, there we can see that you were deadly wrong directly.

About you meeting many iranian women speaking enlish or french fluently has nothing to do with that you can´t find one with the name, Mary Catherine Newland, because that is 100% english name.

Guess they ain´t that far in development yet, or what do you have to say this time? Maybe time to clean the bicycle.

You missed the point. Many Iranian ladies could cross borders with Mary Catherine Newland's passport, without the IO raising an eyebrow...

Although that may be an English name , an Iranian woman could pass for a British Woman .

With numerous British people now of mixed race , a "foreign" looking Woman with a British name would not look out of place

Besides she might have been adopted or legally changed her name. A traditional English name doesn't "belong" only to the white-skinned.
