A big player in the Khon Kaen drugs scene known for selling a new "gold standard" Ya Ba tablet has been arrested in Kalasin.

He had just ordained as a Buddhist monk hoping to gain good fortune and merit.

But police acting on tips from drug users in Khon Kaen spoilt that plan - Atsadang or "Pae Khon Kaen" was caught taking drugs with other monks at a temple in Yang Talat district in his home province of Kalasin.

Police gathered a mountain of evidence - 1.68 million baht worth of Ya Ba (8,400 tablets), 33 grams of "ice" or crystal meth, 110 grams of ganja, three guns, drug related equipment and a BMW 110i.

Khon Kaen police said that Atsadang used the BMW to deliver drugs to party goers in the city and was a big player in the Isan drug community with connections to Rama 2 in Bangkok.

He was involved in Ya Ba sales of 4 million baht each twice a month.

He sold a kind of Ya Ba laced with "ice" that is known as "frung-fring". Its high is especially popular with users and can be sold for between 200 and 250 baht a tablet.

With the sale of ice he lived the high life raking in ten million baht a month, said the cops.

Eight other members of his gang are being sought.

Police said that the suspect had ordained as a monk in his home province to gain merit and good fortune in his life as a drug dealer.

But inquiries among users in Khon Kaen all pointed to him.

He has been charged with possession and distribution of Class 1 narcotics and detained.

You cannot invent this, not even as a scenario.

Unbelievable, going to be a monk to obtain good luck for the despicable "trade" of selling drugs...
