Obviously it's available at various supermarkets but I'd like to know if anyone has seen them at any markets around town.

The fruit and veg market next to US embassy is sure to have 

them, also Makro .

Real Kiwifruit or generic Chinese Gooseberry?

Although they are one and the same species from origin, the actual Kiwifruit from New Zealand has only recently come into season and will take its time to filter through to a local market distribution in Chiang Mai, if at all.

 

Similar to the availability (or lack of) in NZ of Thai mango, baby eggplants etc. 

 

Zespri, (Do a Google search) is the company that unites Kiwifruit from NZ under an almost monopoly and would decide where profitability occurs for exporting.

 

If available from your Supermarket, my advice would be to get it while you can.
