Samui beach manicure women claim "honesty" but local authority remove their license

The two Thai women at the center of claims they scammed a Swedish tourist over a manicure, pedicure and massage have had their license to operate removed by the authorities in Samui.

It was reported yesterday that the Swedish tourist called Nico, 52, went to the police to complain after he was ripped off to the tune of 3,500 baht for the 30 minute service.

Another tourist named only as Daniel R. wrote to the Samui Times to complain about a similar case where he and his wife were charged 3,250 baht. His letter was published yesterday.

Also yesterday the women - named only as A and B - were adamant that they were doing an honest job. They told police they always display their prices and have been doing their jobs without incident for ten years.

"A" said she was honest. They said the Swedish tourist was happy with their service even tipping them generously. She did the massage while B cut the nails of the tourist on hands and feet. There was no argument, they claimed, he even said smiling that he would bring his wife next time.

But the local authority didn't agree clearly believing them to be scammers.

After a meeting deputy chief Sunthorn Phupaiboon said that their licenses had been taken away from them.

He asked all operators offering services on the beach at Lamai and elsewhere to be fair and trustworthy and not take advantage of tourists.

A and B, when informed of this turn of events, apparently went pale and were outraged calling for justice, reported Daily News.

Unbelievable huh? They clearly saw nothing wrong with fleecing people all the time the going was good, but feel hard done by when they get caught and exposed. I have seen the same mentality here before and I am sure we will see it again. Cant now work? Som nam nah!

Hopefully they will be made to pay back what they overcharged - and may more victims will claim refund.

They will be back on the beach tomorrow,if caught pay the 200 THB fine,

business as usual

Well that's a dreamholiday for a Swede, going to a policestation and being busy to claim a refund from a scam and lose another day with this thainess.

I wouldn't claim a refund but tell all my friends back in Sweden what they did to me at Koh Samui Thailand...

Why think differently when even the top of the country is doing the exact same?

They were well on their way for their first luxury watch, after which they would want another 24 more.

Of course, they were outraged. They been running this scam without incident for 10 years.

Did she ask to see the requirements for a manicure license, or is it a mandatory non existing one like for darts?

& maybe not paying the correct fee for the license since the people governing such documents hadn't realized the potential earnings

would seem to me if you don't agree on the price in the first place, you are fair game.

what exactly have they done wrong, especially if prices are posted?

For that price I'd want a happy ending to end all happy endings !

Which obviously makes it acceptable, like squatters rights!

What I wonder is did the women return the money or were they allowed to keep it, spent already. Do they have a couple of bully boys or even a guy dressed up as a policeman ready to get involved when a customer baulks at the price. Or is it simply a naive tourist foolishly proceeding without fixing the price first, then feeling obligated when presented with a silly bill?

Monkey see monkey do, the example is glaringly obvious to all except the rose coloured glasses brigade.

Yes.  Unfortunately things flow down hill.  The sad part of Thai culture

I love a happy ending
