Thai wife driving in UK

My wife is Thai and has her Thai driving licence for a car. We spend the summer in the UK and the winters in Thailand. My question is can my wife drive in the UK for up to 6 months (as per her visa) on an International Driving Permit ? We would hope to do this each year if possible.

She does not need an IDP, Thai license is sufficient.

There are a few variables, where is her residency? If Thailand she can drive for up to 12 months, if residency in UK she can drive for 12 months since she became resident.
