A Chai Nat monk was defrocked yesterday after a woman and used condoms were found in his living quarters provided by his temple.

Administrative officials, police and soldiers jointly conducted a raid of the living quarters assigned to Phra Somporn Sukhesino in the middle of Saturday night after receiving a complaint from local residents that the monk had slept with women.

Celibacy is one of the monastic rules for Buddhist monks.

Phra Somporn Sukhesino, 49, and the unidentified woman found inside his living quarters, 44, denied having sexual relations.

“I just asked for a place to stay because I had family problems,” the woman said.

Phra Khru Wichai Kijjatorn, the deputy monastic chief of Muang Chai Nat district, looked into the case and resolved to order the defrocking of Phra Somporn Sukhesino.

Monk defrocked despite denying sex party claims

Soldiers and the local authority swooped on a Chainat temple after townsfolk told them a woman called "A" had gone to have sexual relations with a monk.

When the military arrived at Wat Khao Tha Lap Phra Somporn Sukhesino - in lay life called plain Somporn Singpreecha - and A were in separate rooms in the cloister.

However, under her bed they found a used condom.

In the monk's room they located the woman's bag and purse in a drawer of his.

Their explanations didn't add up to a cohesive denial of sexual misdemeanor.

The confusion - and skepticism - of the soldiers was compounded when a 12 year old "dek wat" (temple child) associate of Somporn said that the condom was in fact his.

He was in the habit of urinating in condoms for fun, reported Manager.

His urine was tested for drugs but nothing untoward was detected.

Then another lady showed up. "B" said that she and "A" had spent the night in Somporn's room in the past but nothing irregular happened.

Amid all this shenanigans the military took Somporn to a local Buddhist religious leader for defrocking as they were convinced that he had brought the good name of the religion into disrepute.

good name? oh you mean the ones who just have expensive smart phones, visit high street stores, sleep with women in brothels and take first class travel everywhere, those are the ones whose names in the religeon would not want to be brought into disrepute, cos they is highly religious peoples who follow all tenets of buddhism, except for the humble and not owning possessions bit.

Call me a naive and simple fool, but soldiers and local authority 'swooped' on a temple???

Why army for gods sake? Let alone local authorities (whoever they are).  He has been defrocked but the burden of proof is, to put it kindly, wanting.

Last time the army was sent into a temple to do harm to a priest was in 1170 in the UK

"What miserable drones and traitors have I nourished and brought up in my household, who let their lord be treated with such shameful contempt by a low-born cleric?"

It did not come out well.

Lol.... I’m pretty sure your closing your mind to a large portion of history.

“kill them all, god will know his own” allegedly ordered before the sack of Béziers, springs to mind.... not to mention the reformation of the church in England under Henry 8th

and... etc etc etc.... But... nice one

So... with the beach positioning of a nice decorative Buddha bust being decried with demands that foreigners be taught more about Buddhist culture... whilst trying ( unsuccessfully unfortunately) not to laugh, I wonder if it’s not more appropriate to educate locals on Buddhism.

Why? Because the police don't do their job. The army has done it for them countless times since the military took over running the country. Probably the only positive from the coup.

And why  is it a police matter let alone an army one?

I can understand why the temple authorities may have a fit of the vapors, but the army / police?
