Man killed in fire at workers’ quarters

By The Nation

A man was killed when fire swept through the workers’ quarters of a sawmill in Samut Prakan province early on Saturday, police said.

Worker Phanupan Phosriprom, 34, was trapped and killed after the fire quickly engulfed four houses on a two-rai plot in Tambon Samrong Tai, in the Phra Pradaeng district, at 4.30am.

Seven fire engines took about an hour to put out the blaze.

The fire also partially destroyed the roof of a wooden warehouse of the sawmill, police said.

His sister Kanya Phosriprom, 31, told police that she was woken up by the smoke and saw the fire in front of their room so she woke up her mother and brother to escape. She helped her mother escape the fire but her brother was trapped inside.

Police believe the fire was caused by a short circuit.
