"We can't stand it any longer!" Three aunties hold press conference on sidewalk outside house at center of illegal parking drama

Three aunties have laid the blame squarely at the door of the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority and Prawes District for making their life a misery.

The three are at the center of a drama that saw a woman damage a pick-up parked across their driveway.

Despite sounding their horn for a long time the shopper at the market said she "still hadn't finished buying things" it was claimed.

The three - Bunsri, Ratanachat and Ranee all with the surname Saenyoktrakarn - spoke to the assembled media outside their home.

They said that illegal parking had been an everyday problem for ten years. Despite court orders people continued to hem them in.

They said they had bought the property in the Seri Villa housing estate as a place for the whole family but it has been a recurring nightmare.

Signage outside the property gives details of the court orders and implores people not to block access.

One of the women was shown on mobile phone footage earlier in the week taking a spade and an axe to the back and side of the white pick-up owned my Ratchanikorn Lertwasana. She had been shopping at a market nearby.

Reports that the father of the family had died after they could not get him to hospital turned out not to be true. A similar thing had happened to a neighbor, they said.

Though their own mother had a problem with her lungs and many times when they needed to take her to hospital it had proved impossible to get out, they said.

Now they have left the matter in the hands of the local Prawes district and the BMA for action.

It was reported earlier that 50,000 baht of damage was done to the pick-up. No charges in relation to the damage have been filed.

The aunties thanked the Thai public for their support.

Neighbourhood dispute turns nasty

Members of the Sangyoktrakan family hold a press briefing in front of their house in Prawet district yesterday, defending their attack on a pickup truck that blocked the entrance to their home on Sunday.

THE BICKERING between two Bangkok sisters and the driver of a pickup whose vehicle blocked the gate of their Prawet district home – which has become the talk-of-the town – was the tip of the iceberg in a long-running dispute in the area.

A video clip of the Sunday incident that has gone viral, shows Ratanachat Sangyoktrakan, 61, and Ranee Sangyoktrakan, 57, using an axe and spade to hit a pickup parked in front of their house in Seri Villa housing project.

They paused when Rachanikorn Lertwassana, the pickup’s owner, came back to find that her car’s window was smashed and its bonnet and bumper were damaged.

Their accounts of what led to the incident were different.

Rachanikorn claimed she parked her car and went away for just 10 minutes. The sisters said that they tried to find the owner of the pickup that blocked their gate by blowing the horn and then tried to move it, only to find that the brake was on. They said this went on for more than half and hour.

What may have added to the siblings’ outrage was the fact that Rachanikorn told them she had heard the horn blowing but she chose not to return because she had not yet finished her shopping.

Rachanikorn has filed a complaint with police against the two sisters, seeking compensation for damage amounting to Bt50,000.

Rachanikorn, of Samut Sakhon province, said she parked the car assuming that the house was abandoned and may be under legal dispute, as there were big boards on the walls showing court orders and legal issues. The front wall of the house is a familiar sight to people living in the area, as they know about disputes between the owners of the house and Bangkok

authorities over noisy, busy weekend markets around the house that have been the source of several complaints.

Yesterday, the sisters insisted to reporters that they had done nothing wrong and the incident was the first time they had resorted to attacking a parked vehicle even though they had plenty of opportunities previously.

A police source said the family had asked Prawet traffic police to remove parked vehicles blocking the gate four times in the past three years and there had never been any violence before.

One of the sisters told reporters: “Our neighbours and we have had this similar problem for 10 years.”

One of their neighbours joined in the briefing, saying that her son once suffered a broken leg but could not go to hospital because a car had blocked their gate. She said she had to wait for about two hours before it was moved.

One of the sisters said they often had to wait for people to finish their shopping before they could leave their own house. “Sometimes people even complain to us that they haven’t finished their shopping yet,” she said.

Other problems included rats from the markets sneaking into their houses and some vendors illegally using their electricity.

They claim their home is in a dedicated housing estate yet “market after market has been erected around their house despite the fact that such businesses are not allowed”.

In 2009, the women’s family petitioned for help from the Administrative Court, accusing the Bangkok governor, the director of the Prawet District Office, the Prawet District Office and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration of failing to enforce laws to properly govern markets.

In 2013, the Administrative Supreme Court overturned the Central Administrative Court’s ruling in favour of the family and ordered it to re-hear the case.

Prawet director Thanasit Metpunmuang said the case is pending in the Court.

“To solve the ongoing problems of parking, operators of the three markets agreed to to cancel collecting parking fees. The fourth agreed only to reduce the parking fee from Bt50 to Bt20 per hour.”

The high parking fees have caused shoppers to park outside the allocated parking areas.

He disputed the claim that the area was only for housing, saying the City Planning Act allowed the building of markets.

The family would be asked to remove the boards front walls and other items.

Parking is a huge problem in all of Thailand. When there were few cars all was ok. Now many cars but planning cannot keep up. The change happened too fast. Now it seems like a forgone conclusion...there will never be enough parking. The market would probably make additional vendor stalls before adding parking space.

It is simple....

Was the car parked legally ?

Next time i would suggest the old aunts not to bash the car, but use gasoline instead....
(Except that could be a danger for other people....)

Maybe put spikes under the cars wheel is better.

They can probably buy Caltrop's on lazada......

(I am joking)

P.s

My Thai wife and Thai friends tell me that the driver asked for it.
They think the baching of the car where Okay.....

The aunties should buy a forklift and move any car out the way and dump the car in the middle of the road.

Problem solved.

Many parking houses have a hydraulic trolley  jack lift for this in case the driver forgot to leave the car in neutral...

Wouldn't you call an ambulance if it's really serious? Some seem to have a problem with their brains.

The ladies are absolutely right, the Thai just park anywhere near a market, causing huge congestion and dangerous situations.

It's time for Thailand 4.0 where people's rights, health and properties get respected. The police has to start doing their work and write serious fines.

At the market near us they park everywhere, causing huge congestion on the mainroad 1 km down the road...when the police is standing there they don't dare to park but as soon as they are gone they all park there again. So we had police standing there every day for weeks, what a solution hahaha.

AGREE  100% and the folk saying  "nooooooo" well they are probably the same type  of selfish  s h i t s doing this  crap, had it in the Uk, "Only gonna  be  a few  minutes  mate"  (all day long) they even used to turn round their cars on my driveway but that stopped  when i put a chain across although 4  cars did manage to reverse into it snapping it and whip lashing their cars with it.LAZY, SELFISH  nothing more, can't  walk more than 1mm.

Well those owners of that estate are also lowlife's, look at all the foreclosure signs at that hi-so front gate. They have a huge house it seems so why don't they pay the bills like all decent people?

Here in a moobaan where many thai lawyers and tv=stars live they drive the latest model German cars, several at one house but they have no money to paint the wall around their house which looks totally crap....

Many of them bought the landplot at both sides of their estate and leave it as a grassfield so they won't get any neighbours.

Even hi-so expensive moobaans can have lowclass thai with barking dogs or nasty kids screaming all day. And there's nothing you can do about it.

Yes i feel for the people cannot get in/out of their home because of selfish inconsiderate drivers.

Thai people are some of the nicest,    most caring people in the world, until they get in a vehicle, then they become selfish, inconsiderate demons.

You are so right! I think something switches over in the brain of some people when sitting behind the steering wheel.
