The national police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda said Wednesday (Feb 21) that he knew who is the real owner of the 30-million-baht first lottery tickets, but would not give any details, saying that he would disclose the final police report on Feb 28.

The case which is now being handled by Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police was 90 percent completed, he said, adding that he would not push the CSD police to accelerate the case which will be wrapped up and revealed on Feb 28.

Asked by a reporter about a press report that the five First Prize lottery tickets belong to Pol Lt Charoon Wimoon, Pol Gen Chakthip said that the retired police officer was the last person who held the lottery tickets and was the person who cashed the money.

Yeah, that´s the way to go! Don´t say too much too early. Do like the courts, and wait another 10 years to provide enough information and evidence to give dispicable sentences of 3-8 month.

We have to be sure that we are doing the right thing, and that has to be given time to sink in, right?

90% complete eh?

So still a "window of opportunity"?

They just love the percent too much over here. Just look at the after-work shop down in the block.

They already anounced a couple of days ago that they definitely belonged to the policeman.

But a couple of weeks before that they anounced the tickets definitely belong to the teacher. There are 5 of these lottery cases , from 5 different provinces.

3 of them involve the magic number 30 million.

There's a story waiting  to be discovered here.

I suppose it depends on who hands over the thickest envelope!

So this has finally reached the top guy!

Baksheesh just has to be sorted....and looks as though the school teacher most likely will lose.

That is very interesting.

I would not be surprised if there were to be some scams in and around the lottery - there is a staggering amount of cash involved in the whole enterprise. Cynics might note the close interest paid by the BIB amongst others to many aspects of the lottery.

I wonder if things are unraveling somewhere?

Yes, by the time it reaches the top there will be but a few baht leftover.

More than lost. They will charge him for falsifying evidence and fix him up good. Lesson to all mortals not to challenge the all mighty RTP.

The cop should be in a cell and the chief fully audited for the last 10 years

Gifts are usually revealed when they are unwrapped, not under wraps.

'... Chakthip said that the retired police officer was the last person who held the lottery tickets and was the person who cashed the money.'

Non-committal, to the last. Seems the tickets grew legs and walked.

Well, he is younger than old Prawit ... and he can remember where he got all the watches on his person - though he obviously needs more time to collect thoughts ... his, and everyone else's.

That’s good leadership. The corrupt chief protecting the corrupt minors. Just like watchgate.

The national police chief says the case is 90% complete.

Last 10% will be completed only after the 30 million is divided up between senior police officers.

Kanchanaburi police chief axed for alleged involvement in lottery scandal

Seriously, these Lottery Fraud news posts are competing directly with my Thai Soaps.

I'm having difficulty keeping track with all the new people introduced each week and the plot twists. And they still haven't introduced the Monk who gave the winning number, or the new girlfriend who will eventually lose everything when she creates a huge gambling debt at a Thai Police-owned casino.

This is called "transparency" in Thailand.

Go figure.

I do not think the police care about brown envelopes in this case...

To little money for them. They prefer a red bull......

The lottery takes in ( and pays out ) an extraordinary amount of cash twice a month.

I should imagine the interest is considerable...

Yes, especially as any winner immediately tells a few friends/family - even before they claim the prize, not that that matters with the police - and as soon as the police find out they scurry to claim their cut or just steal the tickets outright.

The base criminality is hardly shocking anymore, but the complete lack of shame and morals always surprises me.
