Watchdog Thailand files complaint against ‘serial street cat killer’

By The Nation

Phra Kanong police on Monday issued a summons for a man to turn himself in to face charges of animal cruelty after he was seen on security camera footage killing a street cat.

The civic society group Watchdog Thailand, which filed a complaint against the man, suspects he was a serial cat killer, as people in the neighbourhood have seen him killing several street cats earlier.

Police did not release the name of the man because he had not been formally charged.

Watchdog Thailand said another cat carcass was found on Sunday, which was believed to be the man’s latest victim.

The group filed a complaint with Phra Khanong police after the man was seen on security camera footage taken last Thursday luring a street cat and then killing it in a housing estate in Phra Khanong area.

He was seen pouring cat food from a bag on the roadside and when the cat approached the food, he grabbed it and killed it by smashing it against the ground. Its carcass was then dumped outside a deserted house.

Bought our daughter 2 kittens that were poisoned by Thai neighbours. The same neighbours that let their dogs out all day to foul the roads and chase everyone.

Good for you. We have an adorable and adored Persian bought from a local market seven years ago and my wife and her chums spend hours looking at pictures of felines posted on the Internet.Yet Thai men seem generally indifferent or downright hateful to felines. Wonder why.

Agreed. If you sit and watch thai boy children, they get great pleasure in chasing, trying to run over and hurt cats. So, probably starts from lack of parental education or pathetic upbringing !

Just doing his bit to reduce the increasing rabies epidemic.

As for 'Thai boys getting pleasure from chasing cats'... so what?  I am sure the cats get pleasure from catching, torturing and leaving to die thousands of birds and small animals each year... karma.
