Woman electrocuted as she waded through floodwater

A 27-year-old factory worker was electrocuted to death while wading through floodwater during her lunch break in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thien district on Friday afternoon.

 

Pol Lt Colonel Suphit Alapol of Thien Thalae Police Station said Sansanee Saengngam was killed near the factory’s metal frame security guard booth at 3pm in Soi Thien Thalae 26, which is under 30cm-deep flood. The authority had to disconnect the power while police inspected the scene.

 

Police investigating an apparent electric current leak summoned officials at the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, witnesses and the factory owner for questioning.

 

Sansanee’s older sister, Sasithorn Ngamyae, 37, said she had been a good person, who had been financially supporting her mother and grandmother in Surin. She said she had been on her way home for lunch when the accident happened. 

 

Sasithorn, who works in another factory nearby, quoted some eyewitnesses saying they saw Sansanee wading through floodwater but losing her footing so she grabbed the booth’s frame to regain control and was electrocuted. 

 

Sasithorn, who said she still didn’t know who to ask for help to pay for Sansanee’s funeral expenses, urged the authorities to tackle the repetitive flooding problem in the soi and investigate this case so that those involved could accept some responsibility for her sister’s death.

Sorry, not sure if is supposed to be a Thai trait, or someone not understanding how to write English.

 

People rarely accept responsibility on their own, rather it tends to be assigned.

Getting accurate Thai stats on electrocution deaths isn't easy. Maybe it's just those "fake news" algorhythms in overdrive, but much of the stuff that pops up in a Google search relates to falangs - quite a few of them the handymen types who were killed trying to do their own repairs of Thai electrical equipment.

 

Flooding, once again in the news, is a major contributor to electrocution deaths. When large areas of Bangkok were inundated in 2011 "at least 815 people died during the floods in 2011, mostly due to drowning and electrocution", according to The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

I’d be looking at the owner or builder of the security booth, which seems to have become a live conduit to a dead person.... but.... thai electrical standards being thai standards.... well... you get that

a couple of years ago I wanted the “water wall” feature on the pool changed..... I nearly had a heart attack when I came back from a quick hardware trip, to find a Thai guy in the pool, (full pool) wielding an electric grinder.... a grinder without an electric socket plug

 

whats the problem, right... no plug, no plug in... no power, no problem

 

wrong!.... the twisted ends of the grinder lead were jammed into an extension lead, which had a plug on one end.... the other end was more twisted wires shoved into the wall socket outlet.
