Chaiyaphum province has detected a rabid dog in another district of Muang Chaiyaphum, prompting officials to vaccinate at least 80 per cent of dogs and cats in a five-kilometre radius.

This discovery of a rabid dog in Khilek Yai Community on Muang Chaiyaphum on Tuesday brought the number of affected districts to four. The others are Chatturat, Kaeng Khro and Khon Sawan, said Chaiyaphum livestock development official Srisamai Chotinich on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, pet owners brought 260 cats and dogs to get vaccinated against rabies.

Thailand has seen six cases of human deaths by rabies so far this year, in Surin, Songkhla, Trang, Nakhon Ratchasima, Phrachuap Khiri Khan and Buri Ram.

As long as you're out there giving rabies jabs to soi dogs, how about birth control at the same time?  Even a one time effort would create a temporary but welcome "paws" in the never ending breeding cycle.

The Junta could take inspiration for the campaign by thinking of soi dogs as University student protestors.   Or farang over-stayers.  Soi dogs are probably easier to catch.   A Kingdom-wide Operation Soi Dog would cost about the same as just 1 Chinese tank, but definitely less than a submarine.
