Three schoolgirls will be presented with certificates of honour from the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 35 for having this week returned a wallet with Bt100,000 in cash to its rightful owner.

The girls discovered the wallet in front of Maesan Wittaya School in Lampang’s Hang Chat district on Monday evening, said office deputy director Alongkorn Prasansuk on Friday.

Schoolgirls Siriporn Tanpeng of Mathayom 2, Jinda Namasen of Mathayom 4, and Supattra Kaewmuangmul of Mathayom 4 - returned the lost-and-found wallet with huge cash to its owner, Suthin Kaewkhamfu.

Their retired teacher, Mukda Pansima, helped contact the man to arrange the hand-over.

Suthin offered the girls an award of Bt2,000 cash each, but they accepted only Bt1,000 each and took photos of the good deed as evidence.

Honestly is the best policy, good to see they are being rewarded.

I'm curious though how someone manages to fit 100,000 baht in cash in a wallet. That would be one thick wad of notes. If I put 10,000 in mine, it would be a struggle to close it and a noticeable presence in my pocket.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect

And also, how can we manage to lose of forget money , jewels, computer ( for instance in a taxi ) ? it will never happen to me

So funny, just came back from a 711 run, parked my bike had some money in my pocket and my wallet was in the same pocket. I take out the walled while walking to the 711..  I hear my YOU YOU YOU and my name called (some villagers know me) and an girl comes walking towards me with 100bt. Many Thais are honest .

I agree, years ago I was in a 7eleven in Chiang Mai, pulled some loose bills out of my pocket at the checkout. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to find a young Thai lady handing me 1,000 baht I had dropped. I thanked her and offered to pay for her purchases but she declined. I think regular people are as honest as they are in most parts of the world.

Yes i think that people in general are honest. You always hear bad stories especially when cars and bikes are involved.. but honestly in the west people also always think they are not to blame in an accident. Everyone always thinks they are right and when it turns out otherwise they often say it was a frame-up. Anyway my experiences with Thais have been good for the most part

Evidence for what? Must have not been the owner of the money

I find poorer people to be generally honest here....often they will give or share whatever little they have with others. I can't always say this about the wealthy though.

That's why they are poor. From what I've seen of the world, you get rich by screwing others. Too bad, really.
