I just moved to Bangkok 2 weeks ago, am wondering what (preferably free!) print magazines/newspapers are out there that have info of what's on in town at the moment, and where I can get them.

The Bangkok Post and Nation newspapers both have a full page (at least weekly) showing major events in Bangkok. There are several magazines aimed primarily at the Westerners (ie Big Chil). Go into any Starbucks and they usually have copies of these papers/mags available for reading.

There are also some free mags that are available at most large hotels but they arent that useful in my opinion. There is a free newspaper called BKK I think that mag also lists things going on around town. It is available at selected restaurants around town and the Emporium 2 floor info desk.

Hi

I just copied and pasted this from another thread - Hope it's useful

You can try BK Magazine - a freebie out on Fridays I think, usually available in Starbucks and other western orientated outlets

Bangkok Post has the Guru every Friday. And every other Thursday there's the more upmarket magazine.

Untamed Travel is a little generalist on SE Asia rather than focusing on Thailand.

Bangkok 101 is a small magazine which has listings

Big Chili has a lot of those photos of shop / restauarnt opening that celebs go to. But I felt it was targeted at older expats.

the last 3 are around 100 baht

Thanks guys, that's great :o

Welcome Trix,

real.time on Friday in Bangkok Post, The Nation Weekend on Friday in The Nation,

go ask the bellboy/concierge of a four/five star hotel, chances are they'll give you one free, even when not staying there,

the free BK magazine at Starbucks, though I dont like the coffee there,

in my opinion it's best to glean info from a few different newspapers or mags to get the most complete picture of what's on.

(BTW Metro magazine, does that still exist? By the time it made it to the bookstores most of the announced activities would be well in the past)
