An elderly couple in Kalasin has put up a sign in front of their house, begging a burglar to return Bt500,000 in cash and Bt140,000 worth of gold ornaments.

The couple, who live in Ban Nong Bua village in Tambon Bueng Na Riang in Huay Mek district, said their house was robbed at noon on Wednesday, just a few days after they withdrew the cash to buy a plot of land for their daughter.

Kream Phulaha, 67, said she and her husband, Suriyan Phulaha, 70, have been saving throughout their life from selling sugar cane and banking their elderly allowances. A part of the money also came from their daughter, who has been selling somtam in Bangkok.

Kream said she and her husband went to the funeral of a relative in Khon Kaen on Wednesday and left the cash at home. Her neighbours heard dogs barking at noon on Wednesday and saw a man, who had covered his face with a knitted hood, park his motorcycle about 30 metres from her house and then walk to the house.

Kream said she and her husband returned home at 8pm that day and found that all the cash and gold valuables were gone. She said the thief left a Bt20 banknote behind.

Huay Mek deputy police chief Pol Lt-Colonel Ratthapong Thongchuentrakul said the burglar broke into the house through a window.

Kream said she was planning to use her lifetime saving to buy a plot of land so that her daughter could return home to earn her living as a farmer, and so she could take care of the couple.

I hope the police are able to retreive it or the thief has some compassion. Just need to keep an eye out for anyone in the village suddenly spending generously.

Never a good idea to have large amounts of ca$h at home.

Hope the thieves are caught and the money recovered.

Sad to see that people who trust and do not see how bad the world is, often become victims.

We all know who the Somtham is, don't we?

I hope that she gets all back, including the hard earned Somtham money.

Obviously someone that knew it was there, so either someone in the family or they talked too loudly about it locally and forgot that 'walls have ears'.

I wonder who the BF of daughter was? , still stupid thing to do as a lawyer can settle a land transaction through the banking system online for both parties. Why take the cash home?? a set up here doctor Watson.

A lawyer,...... right, second thoughts, keep the money in cash.

Obviously some one that knew they were going to buy the land

Most of them will deal in cash ( just get it out of bank & trot down to the land office to complete transaction )

Why didn't they just withdraw it on the day they would of had to go to town to complete the land transfer

Especially if your going to leave the house vacant for half a day to attend a funeral

Obviously one cannot rely on neighbours around here. Someone wandering around wearing a facemask draws little attention at the time.

Agreed,

Someone in that village will know who did it.

Moreover I suspect that gran and pop have a pretty good idea too.
