Swiss father of four children who fell from balcony calls for justice - will fight for custody of his kids

The Swiss father of the four children who fell during the night from the balcony of some Bangkok flats has called for justice for him and his children.

He has intimated that he does not believe the stories that have been printed of how they died.

While a female friend has said that his wife and the mother of the children is speaking nonsense. And his lawyer has commented that he has as much right as the mother to have custody of the children.

And, as Michael Borel prepared to attend the funeral of his youngest boy aged five who died in the fall, he has complained about falsehoods in the media written about him and vowed to use the opportunity to get custody of his remaining three children.

The children - aged 11,10, 7 and 5 - fell one after the other from the fourth floor of some flats in Ramkhamhaeng while their mother was out at work and their grandparents were in another room on another floor.

It was reported that the youngest got entangled in a net and the others tried to help him before falling from a platform set up to drain plates. The eldest of the children had been making a midnight snack for the little boy before tragedy struck.

The three surviving children are recovering but the five year old boy - Kanatcha or Alex Borel - died at the scene from head trauma.

The father has been involved in a legal battle for the custody of his children going back several years. He is an English teacher with a good income and is able to look after his children, said his lawyer Natthakorn.

She said that he officially registered himself as the father of his children in 2016. She said that he has as much right over his children as their Thai mother.

Mr Borel said on Thai Rath TV: "It's not fair. I want justice. I want to know how (he died). For me it's not possible for four kids to fall down off the balcony.

"I will take care of the kids - I have been fighting for three years to get my kids back.

"Now this is my opportunity to get them back and take care (of them)".

Mr Borel went with official documents to retrieve the body of his dead son today.

The funeral was set to be held today at Wat Bamphen Tai.

Nawaporn Brady, a friend of the father who also said that she knows the mother, said in Thai that the mother has been speaking a lot of nonsense about the father who is prepared and able to look after the children both emotionally and financially.

She said that anyone who wants to know the truth about him should go to the funeral and see the people both Thais and foreigners who would turn up in support of him.

Thai Rath said they were unable to contact the mother for comment.

The four lovely kids are too young to care by others, need parents assistance.

Definitely children will not lie to anyone what happened at that night. Probably some charity should investigate and come up with transparent report and make the judgement on custody.

I don't think any mother would let her children die, until and unless she is stone hearted person.

There are so many cannot afford to have kids, or biologically not possible have kids, so please show some good life for them, and parents should live happily together with a compromise.

It will take another 50 years, if at all, for Thailand to adopt a mature legal approach to resolving international family disputes that takes into consideration the very best future interests of the child. That decision should be holistic and not nationalistic. This problem is only going to get bigger as more and more Thai's marry foreigners ........... and then separate.

It is such a shame these kids went through. I have lived here for 10 yrs and most Thais I have seen just  let the kids wander off. I get very concerned at times. Thinking of someone just grabbing them into a car or an old or younger guy taking a little girl some where and you know what. My wife has 2 young grand kids, lovely girl 6 and a awsome lovely boy 2.5 yrs old. If I do not see them I ask the missus where are they. Most times the girl has gone on her bicycle with the boy on the back and gone around the corner to see friends, and I tell the wife, go and see if they are ok. I love them as my own.

"...taking a little girl..."    Just as often or almost as often... the sicko is a sicko who prefers to sexually abuse and rape little boys.  Lock 'em up.....  let 'em rot !

I've said it another thread but I'll say it again.  When it comes to the courts, they take more notice of what the kids have to say than the parents.  In my case, my children were interviewed at the Child Protection Agency in Prachuab.  The transcript of the interview and recommendation are sent to the court for the judge to assess. And as has been said ---- kids tend not to lie in these circumstances.

In court, it was quite clear that the interests and welfare of the children were much higher on the agenda than the wishes of the parents.  The attitude of the court is sadly lacking in many families.

Thats all well and good but if their is a manipulative Thai Mother and family, kids will say what they have been brainwashed into thinking.

Such a tragic situation for them all,

I wish the Father luck in trying to get justice, but this being Thailand, I think that justice tends to be in short supply, unless youre rich of course.....

There is absolutely NO justice in Thailand [I doubt Thais even know the meaning of the word] unless you buy it! As the saying goes - ''Cash for Justice''

A very sad case indeed.  Is the father really an English teacher?  I saw the interview on Thairath last night and could barely understand a word he said.

Anyway, I wish him the best of luck in gaining custody of his remaining children.

Yea only Thailand has injustice ! Not like the father in Europe who’s child died while being with mother !!

Where can we read about this in decent English?  I'm sorry, but the writing of this story is so confusing and the grammar is such crap; I can not follow it.

But the guy you mention was jailed for a minimum of twenty-four years before even being considered for parole.

Too general a statement and a bit out of order.

Seriously, fellow members, this is no time for this nonsense.  These two are reunited in their grief and no need for any further nasty comments.

Such a sad and tragic story. Words escape me.

However, what I always wonder is why there are so many divorces between Thais and foreigners with children. One would hope to be 110% sure you have found the right partner before having kids with them.

But probably 80% true

Thai parenting is woeful as they just big kids themselves, and combined in general with a low level of education makes a perfect storm

That smile made me think the accident had happened years ago, when in fact, it was the divorce that had taken place long ago. Very different culture to be smiling on such a tragic day. I have seen it many times, though.
