Better Call Saul is back----- follows him as he moves to Albuquerque, before he meets up with Walter White...............coffee1.gif

Without wanting to add to the little ethnic correctness spat going on here...but I for one was pretty bummed about the seriously hot DC Bethany Whelan (Cush Jumbo) getting shot & killed

was she hot?smile.png

ps how can i be called racist , i am married to a brown girlwub.png

Oh Hell Yes she was/is hot

Just finished watching 11.22.63, first episode from the Stephen King novel of the same name. Looks very promising, and well worth watching if for nothing else the 60's automobiles.

Thanks for this really enjoying it ,and yes the car's are ace

Tv series The Lens AKA Clona

Quite enjoyed this Czech 7 part crime series.
Has hard coded subs.

Summary: Clona is a 2014 Czech TV crime series. Young cameraman Roman Kadlec fails at the entrance exams to the Film Academy,

and his father had to arrange a job for him with the traffic police. Roman after the murder of his father gets into the elite criminalistic team.

But it has trouble playing by the rules.

'outsiders' the story of a town and its right to mine the land its resident hill billies have been squatting for time and memorial

the town and politicians craves the prosperity the mining will bring and the long standing clan want nothing to change. mixed reviews, but imo so far watchable http://www.metacritic.com/tv/outsiders

Try The Survivalist, good movie considering only 3 main characters

I learnt a new way to fertilize my cannabis seeds!!

Lonely Are The Brave (1962)

I saw a brief reference to this film in a recent article about blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. Kirk Douglas was instrumental in reviving Mr Trumbo's career, which has now been immortalized in the excellent new film, Trumbo. When Kirk and Kubrick hired Trumbo to write the screenplay for Spartacus, and boldly displayed DT's name in the credits, the blacklist era was DEAD FOREVERMORE, after ruining so many lives over many years. Howard Fast, who wrote the original novel, was also a blacklist victim.

To prove his esteem for Trumbo wasn't a one-off thing, Kirk bought the film rights to a minor novel by Edward Abbey, and turned it over to Trumbo for the screenplay. Mr. Douglas loved the script so much, he didn't change a word of it. Abbey himself was a dispruptor of the American status quo, especially about the ruination of the American West, before and after this novel. He later penned a cult classic called The Monkey Wrench Gang, about a pre-Earth First group whose goal was to stop construction of a dam in the West. It was a thinly disguised reference to the infamous and controversial Glen Canyon Dam, which got built, anyway.

I saw this film years ago, and was really impressed by it. Saw it again last night (great print available from the usuals) in glorious black and white, starring Kirk Douglas as crazy cowboy Jack Burns, on a mission to break his buddy out of a local jail. My admiration for it is still as strong as back then. The friend is facing two years Federal prison time for assisting “illegal aliens” in getting across the border. The friend, however, chooses to stay and face the two years, so Jack breaks out of jail and heads for the mountains on his beautiful, temperamental mare, Whiskey.

Walther Matthau is outstanding as the Sheriff who must (reluctantly) give chase. Kirk must have been in the best shape of his life, as he does all of his own stunts, scrabbling up this rugged defile with a horse that has other ideas. That's all I'll say here. The IMDB database has a lot of good info on the film, which I cannot praise highly enough. There's never been a better “Western” than this one.

OFF THE CHARTS!

BBC 2 ran the first episode (it has 3) of "One Child" last night........... first run on Sundance TV in 2015...It doesn't have rave ratings 67% on Rotten tomatoes http://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/one-child/s01/ when it first came out. I haven't seen it a friend posted on to me---It's about a young Chinese girl adopted by a British couple---(you were allowed to do that in China at one time as you were only allowed 1 child----& who in their right mind would want a knock out beautiful looking Chinese girl) She is at Uni in the UK & is contacted by her birth mother (how??) & told that her younger brother is to be executed for a murder he didn't commit---she must come back & help.

PS....I just took some time out to look at the UK papers.....oh boy did they pan it......unbelievable rubbish was one of the kinder reports......

Sorry guys...........wub.png

So to not waste a post here is a link to Sundance TV in case anyone doesn't have it-----they do put out some good stuff....Doco's especially.

Saw the first episode then. "Unbelievable rubbish" is a rather accurate description, I'd say. The idea itself was alright but the execution...

Seems that also Sundance TV messes up once in while.

If you see some posts missing in the last couple of pages I'm sure some of you know why. smile.png

Was sick today, stayed in bed and binged on TV and self pity...

This one may not be of much interest to non Americans, but Showtime has an ongoing show following the US election 'The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth'

It's a pretty good non partisan following of the 'circus' so far, 5 episodes available

Jack Irish is back!! I had forgotten that rather good Ozzy series. Guy Pearce is looking good!!

I did not intend to watch war and peace as I have read the book and seen the movie, but yesterday I downloaded ep 1,watched it with the wife,we have just sat through 3 further episodes, its great, but she will cry at the sad bits, really glad I did watch it in the end ,when the BBC do things right and try not to change history to be PC they are the best

There's a 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' scene in episode 19 of 'Dickensian' that will have you spitting in your cornflakes Claud smile.png

I'm the same with War And Peace, taking it one episode at a time. On Episode 2 now.

I have not watched it yet waiting for the last episode to air , but don't tell me , its a muslim shopkeeper selling only halal foods and the black artful dodger gets annoyed as he wanted a bacon sandwich and is refused .cheesy.gif

Oh , are you objecting to yet another black person in it,,, so so,, terrible. Perhaps you should write to the bbc and complain about it.

I just read the article and honestly cannot see that there were many Black people in Britain for hundreds of years although i am sure there were some ,all i know is that back in the early 50s i was a young lad and remember seeing a black man sweeping the road in the big town i lived in ,all us lads followed him as we had never seen a black man , we asked him things like "does the colour wash off " we were not being rude and he was laughing and chatting to us , we were genuinly interested and amazed ,so as i have said before how come people can go on that there were masses of black people in the middle ages and 18/19th centuaries when in the 1950s it was such a rare sight? and no i am not racist just a realist .thumbsup.gif

I think it depends on where you lived Cluadius...I was brought up in the east end of London--like you in the 40-50s, it wasn't an unusual sight there. But I suppose London was always a bit of a melting pot---in fact the first non white MP was elected in 18?? & something, (can never be bothered to Google after the 3rd glass of red).... Naoroji....they still have a street named after him in Finsbury. From a boys home I was placed into the merchant navy, where my first exotic stop was Liverpool--around the docks area they seem to be more black faces than London. I learned latter there were of course, & the Beatles dedicated one of their songs to them in Sgt Pepper. "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!"

..............The Hendersons will all be there

..............Late of Pablo Fanques Fair, what a scene

Pablo Fanque, a black guy was born was in Norwich in 17??, & something, & was in his time one of the most successful circus performers and proprietors in England. He tried to employ mainly black artists, & they traveled around England performing...... but in the off season made their base in Liverpool's dock area.

I am not trying to buy into you & your close friends argument Cluadius....... I also do think the BBC has got far to PC over the years, I cant see them really employing another Dennis Potter or Ken Loach even if they appeared.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway back to the present & Shetland..... now on its 5th episode, its a good strong story that now reaches into the Glasgow underworld........ if you like Vera etc......this is really worth a watch. Finding the time to view all the stuff you guys are sharing is not so easy---I am fast becoming a couch potato , ....saw on Face/B some friend from Oz asking my wife what I do with my time now..... her answer---Him oh now him-he movie critique. ......................coffee1.gif
