I'm sure these have all been mentioned already somewhere on this thread, but I'll recommend again:

The Night Manager

BBC series adapting John Le Carré's novel about the international arms trade, starring Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston.

Happy Valley (Seasons 1 & 2)

Another BBC series with a host of good British character actors. Bleak and compelling.

Wolf Hall

BBC again. Not in the same league as the books (Wolf Hall & Bring Up the Bodies), but still gripping.

IMDb: After the downfall of Cardinal Wolsey, his secretary, Thomas Cromwell, finds himself amongst the treachery and intrigue of King Henry VIII's court and soon becomes a close advisor to the King, a role fraught with danger.

Mark Rylance, Damian Lewis and Claire Foy.

Better Call Saul (Seasons 1 & 2)

Quality spin-off 'prequel' to Breaking Bad. Great script, great cast.

Documentary - Sherpa

I quite enjoyed this one.

IMDB: A fight on Everest? It seemed incredible. But in 2013 news channels around the world reported an ugly brawl at 6400 m (21,000 ft) as European climbers fled a mob of angry Sherpas.

Tv series - Fleabag

An excellent start to this new 6 part series from Amazon.

IMDB: A six-part comedy series adapted from the award-winning play about a young woman trying to cope with life in London whilst coming to terms with a recent tragedy.

Spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead returns next week!

Not sure when The Walking Dead returns...the last 'cliffhanger' episode of last season was a real downer and I feel like I cant be bothered to watch next season

Fear the walking dead is back!

Sheriff Jamey Noel wants to end crime and corruption at Clark County Jail, and he's enlisting members of the public to help. Really good start to this 4 part series from the Beeb.

IMDB: A horrific double murder rocks the lives of two families living side-by-side in isolated rural Scotland. But instead of focusing on the
investigation, One Of Us explores the fallout for the grieving relatives, and the dark consequences that threaten to shatter their lives.

Nice one! Liked it very much. A few hilarious scenes. Sorry to see that there are only 6 episodes (the last episode airing this week). Hope the BBC dare to make a second season.

Yep, some really funny moments and very original.

I have been in Hanoi for the last week ---so thought being there would let me catch up on a lot of stuff......(just cant keep up with you guys) ....but my shopaholic  wife had other ideas.

I did get some stuff in, but also came back from the puppet theatre one night switch on the TV and watched what looked like a good thriller, that had just started, so a few glasses of red--got to the end of it before they announced it was the episode 6 of "The Night of" ---how annoying I had been saving them all up to watch in one hit & and had just seen the middle one.

Got through some stuff----if already posted ----apologies.

1/-"The Nice guys"---- set in the 70s--Russel Crow plays a heavy----and he certainly is, I don't know how he managed to put on so much weight----its OK worth the time

2/ "Despite.the.Falling.Snow." Cold war-Soviet Union 1960s---present time....... its a relationship movie, (sort of thing I usually keep away from) but some good acting from some people I hadn't encountered before.

3/ "The.Trust" its this year but about 3 months old-- Nicolas Cage, Elijah Wood

Cage has done some rubbish movies of late---but if you like a quirky crime movie...this fits the bill. 2 dirty nobody police officers who work in the evidence room of the Las Vegas Police Department. When they find an anomaly that could make them a lot of money---if they trust each other.

4/ Watched a Doco on Roger.Bannister----"Roger.Bannister.Everest.on.the.Track". When you look at the shoes they run in (just leather) and on a cinder track, you would think with the advancements----so many other people would have equalled it.---however more people have climbed Mount Everest than have equalled  or bettered his record.

5/ What do you think is the most sort after & requested  photo from  the National Archives.

First man on the moon--?--- Japan surrendering.....JFK being shot..... no its "Elvis & Nixon"

"On a December morning in 1970, the King of Rock 'n Roll showed up on the lawn of the White House to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Nixon. Starring Academy Award® nominee Michael Shannon as Elvis Presley and two-time Academy Award® winner Kevin Spacey as Richard Nixon, comes the untold true story behind this revealing, yet humorous moment in the Oval Office forever immortalized in the most requested photograph in the National Archives. "

Honestly this has some real bad write ups about the secret meeting---but I found the movie very entertaining....Spacey as always acted great---& Elvis = Michael Shannon  has been nominated for an award for it.

6/ "Jesse.Stone.Lost.in.Paradise". It was part of his series that come out occasionally--this came out late 2015-----I just missed it at the time.

7/ "Endgame" Fell asleep on the plane watching it---(blame the red wine again) but will go back to it as I am (or was, really into chess before computers made cheating so easy)  its a true story that they have tweaked, in the film to make it more exciting.

Their version-- Since he was 5 yrs old, Jose's  taught him to play chess like his grandfather who was a champion in Mexico. Now as part of the Brownsville school team, Jose has the chance to use his skills

-------------------------------------

The true story--- an elementary school teacher J.J.Guajardo from Brownsville ( an American low income town located near the Texas - Mexico border. )  showed his student how to play chess, primarily to ward off their aggression &  behavioural issues. (you can put a lot of energy into a chess game) They won the state championship every year thence, from 1993 to 1999.

Alone - Season 2

Ten contestants are dropped off in remote areas of Northern Vancouver Island, far enough apart that they will not come in contact with each other. Contestants each select 10 items of survival gear from a pre-approved list of 50, and are issued a kit of standard equipment, clothing, and first aid/emergency supplies. They are also given a set of cameras to document their daily experiences and emotions. Attempting to live in the wild for as long as possible, the contestants must hunt for food, build shelters, and fend off predators while enduring extreme isolation and psychological distress. Contestants who wish to withdraw from the competition for any reason (referred to as "tapping out") may signal a rescue crew using a provided satellite telephone. The last remaining contestant wins a $500,000 cash prize. Contestants are warned that the show might last for up to a year.

The Killing has been mentioned before but a reminder is always welcome. Good series. The ending was a bit rushed, some thought it didn't ring true, but I really liked it a lot.

I just finished season 1 and am loving it. I like the way that they make you think you have it all figured out and then they surprise you again.

Nah that Power was whacked than whack but I understand sometimes you need new content and anything will do.

Something different.  If anyone likes American football then HB0's "Hard Knocks" goes inside one team's training camp each year and shows the behind the scenes stories of competing for a job in the NFL.  This is the 11th year of this series.

Yes it is. If you enjoyed the Danish series, you would also like a French crime/drama series "The Spiral / Engrenages."  5 seasons so far and good stuff....with hardcoded English subs.

Blood Father, the latest from Mel Gibson, a cliche ridden formulaic movie if there ever was one. Mel must be doing it tough to put his name to this rubbish. Nothing original to see here folks. It does get good reviews on IMDB, from the cast and crew no doubt.

This weekend brought two good ones.

The Ones Below…a slightly creepy, slow burn shocker from the Beeb….a couple have a bit of a run in with the neighbours below.

Also enjoyed Our Kind Of Traitor…typical slow moving le carre story but quite absorbing. Stellan Skaarsgard is great as a loud russian oligarch.

It did get great reviews and not just on IMDB. I would like to see it. I have enjoyed some of Mel's recent work. He might be an anti-Semite, but he kept it to himself until his girlfriend outed him.

I forgot to mention War Dogs....enjoyed this thoroughly....story that beggars belief and great to see jonah hill take on some meatier roles other than the asshat he usually plays.

All I can say is that the standard and originality of movies has dropped so significantly that people are satisfied with any old rubbish. It's called "dumbing down". BTW, he outed himself after abusing a police officer when he was drunk with an anti-semite tirade.

Sounds like a personal OPINION and not all that convincing. There are plenty of good films and TV is probably the best that it has ever been.
