Police called to the scene of an accident on the Asia Highway in Lang Suan, Chumpon found 22 year old Kampanat Pin-Ek dead in the central reservation.

Nearby was his Honda Click motorcycle. He had been dragged 50 meters under the front wheel of a Bangkok registered Vigo pick up driven by Chutimaporn Rort-una, 30.

The pick-up was on its side with a front wheel buckled.

The accident happened Saturday night in Tha Maphla sub-district, said Daily News.

Chutimaporn was in a noodle restaurant shocked and in tears at what she had done. She was being comforted by a friend when the cops arrived.

Witnesses said that she went through a red light at speed.

A friend of the victim said that he was a good guy with everything to live for - he worked in a fried chicken outlet at a large store and looked after his mother and father.

If true, a nice lengthy prison sentence. Send a message loud and clear - a red light is not a suggestion!

Yes if there is anything i hate its red light jumpers.

not many things infuriate as much as the near mandatory crossing of red light,

i hope for harsh punishment

you can see this every day at any traffic lights, they just accelerate and go through because they do not want to stop for anyone. This applies to side streets as well, too many thai drivers/riders refuse to stop and simply keep going, with traffic lights it can be several seconds after the lights have gone red as well, there are always bike and their riders sprawled on the roads at lights, even when the intersections are being controlled by police it happens and the cops simply watch them. Huge fines, seizing of cars and loss of licence (if they even have one) might make them stop but I seriously doubt it, they are too self absorbed to care about anyone else except themselves

I completely agree. I would suggest a minimum of at least two years. But it also has to be extensively covered by all the Thai news sources,  Internet, TV and radio so that the whole nation learns and understands that if you commit a similar  driving offence there will only be one outcome, prison time no matter who you are. That means no concessions for the so called Hi So society.

Lengthy prison sentence? Won't happen. It will be a token fine, a couple of wais, perhaps some compensation to the victim's family and that will be it.

The driver must have been going at some speed through the

red light.looking at the condition of the motor bike.

When the light turns green, the line of traffic dawdles through,

as the light turns amber/red, up to 6 vehicles dash through,

happens at every light change.

Any traffic  lights , anywhere in Thailand,  anytime of day, everyday of the week, every week, every year.

For entertainment park your backside there and just watch total ineptitude, stupidity, laziness, me first, <deleted> you etc  in action, you can wake up the police in their box if you are feeling really brave!!

Do they get issued with a mop and bucket to clear up the  remains which must occur daily I would think? I certainly see them doing absolutely nothing in those boxes

that will never happen... 500 baht and a wai, disgusting

No need to describe the driver as 'female' in the headline.

Very sad for the young man.

Time to re-define 'accident' - this was no accident, it was pure and simple reckless, selfish negligence.

About 4 years ago when on my motorbike I got hit by a red light runner in Nakon Sawan. The lights had gone green in my favour, and the old lady in an old pickup ran the red from my left and there was nowhere for me to go. She hit the bike on the left side under my ass, fortunately missing any part of my body but I got thrown of and bounced a bit. I had some scrapes and my right wrist was a bit bent but not broken.

She stopped about 50 metres up the road and the cops from the post at the junction nabbed her. A cop helped me to straighten the handlebars and I followed (as did the old lady) the cop to the main station where we sorted out compensation between her, her family, me and my wife on the phone and the cops. It cost her 10,000 baht in cash to me to fix my bike. I was OK enough to ride 65km home but I did tell my wife that if I had a problem she would have to come and get me.

I was VERY lucky and so was my mate as I dropped him off at home 10 minutes before the accident, or he would have spent a long time in hospital and may even have lost his leg.

Now I am almost 74 I have almost given up riding motor bikes.

Indeed - and without learning anything, feeling responsible for anything and almost certainly without the slightest inclination to change behavior.

Yes I think most of us know that part but didn't want to say anything in case the pro Thai got on to me for Thai bashing.

I am in Pattaya and the best place to see this occurring virtually every time the lights change to red is on the corner of second road and Pattaya Klang. It's guaranteed because if you are a pedestrian you better know for the sake of your own life that cars keep coming even after the lights have changed to red. Meanwhile the police officers that sit in the box at the same location do absolutely nothing about this.

I rode 200.000 kilometers on a big bike throughout Asia luckily I had only one accident caused by a 19 year old girl jumping a red light with a Honda Jazz in Bangkok. Police fined her 500 baht...

It seems like these are the only vehicles matching the intellect of the average Thai driver:

Red lights and stop signs have no meaning.

Assume all of them are drunk and have no brakes.

Watch your six in the rear view mirror.

Remember honking your tooter may cause a Thai samurai to appear.

ME FIRST mentality rules the road.

Most prestigious ride with the larger monthly payment wins.

A wai to the dead family.

What is the moron laughing about at the end of the video ? A picture tells a story don't it.

There is no place for dreams on the roads here only nightmares.

No pity for red light runners from me.......she should be charged with murder, because that is really what she did.
