Government courses for Thai people, Massage, Hairdressing etc

Featured Replies

Hi,

I hope someone can help.

I am living in Khon Kaen with my Thai girlfriend. I am 65, she is 50 years old. She suggested that she might take a massage course.

We have just visited a government run education place along Na Mueang 9 and my girlfriend obtained all the details.

My girlfriend does not always explain things well and we had quite a discussion. She has just told me that the massage course would cost just 700 baht, the course would last for 3 months and she would attend 5 days each week. So as a rough calculation lets say 12 weeks = 60 days ........ so just 12 baht per day.

She also said that in Bangkok the course would be free.

Is the above true? Can Thai people go on such government courses at very low costs or free?

I did post this in the “Courses in Thailand” section but did not have any replies.

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you

Keith

Yes I belive your girlfriend is correct. My wife have attended simular courses in Udon Thani at a very nominal fee.

I believe that's right for the massage course. I can't speak of hairdressing courses etc.

The natural medicine department in my local public health HQ organizes these courses.

To Lassebasse and Farma - Thank you both so much for your quick replies. You have answered my question.

My girlfriend said the hairdressing course was also 700 baht but with an extra 2500 baht charge for hair cutting. I am not sure and so guessing a bit that this 2500 baht charge is for wigs or similar for them to cut.

A friend (but not see much) recently took a privately run massage course at a cost of more than 20,000 baht, I'm not sure how long she attended the course but I think it was a lot less than 12 full weeks. Makes you wonder Thai people would attend the private courses unless they tend to be better or are perceived to be better than government courses?

Thanks again

Keith
