The Criminal Court has approved nine arrest warrants for a former deputy superintendent at the Special-Branch Police Division, Pol Lt-Colonel Santhana Prayoonrat, over allegations of extortion at the Donmuang Modern Market.

Tourist Police deputy commander Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpan said on Friday that 10 of Santhana’s alleged accomplices also faced arrest warrants.

“We are taking actions against a gang that allegedly extorted money from vendors at the market on various occasions,” he said.

Surachet said extortion was an offence under the anti-money laundering law.

“We have already interviewed more than 200 vendors,” he said.

Santhana is an advisor to the operator of Donmuang Modern Market in Bangkok’s Don Muang district.

Earlier this month, Santhana confronted a senior police officer as he led a team to scour the market on suspicion that some shops have sold substandard products.

1 down, but plenty more to go....

Next step, kindly sack all those immigration personnel either at the Airport or in the local offices, who sometimes ignore the law and plainly invent new rules, depending on their mood of the day !!

Good job by the Tourist Police deputy commander Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpan.

How do they sleep at night? Scum

Seems to me it's very likely this guy joined the force with the intent to get into a position where he could scam others / rip off others / intimidate others for cash, etc.

I wonder what % of new joiners fit this profile?

And how come those with this clear intent are not noticed quickly and removed. In other words are all police always being monitored properly?

I hope they don't forget to visit a bunch of school directors. :vampire:

His sentence should be tripled for the position of trust he violated. But this being Thailand that would only lead to a nominal fine and a transfer

Today was a bad day for him, he just stripped down to the waist and started ranting in front of reporters and cops; seemed to be a bit unhinged to put it mildly
