meaning, usage: of sa lop sa lop sa lai

Featured Replies

I'm sure I have poorly transcribed this interesting word, or phrase ... but it has intrigued me for some time.

The second "sa" I have heard pronounced more like "ta."

The sense I have of its meaning now, which I am sure needs correction, is that it connotes someone out of control, nuts ? berserk ?  A chaotic situation /

thanks, ~o:37;

Weird but I saw a poster use this recently and had no idea what it mean't.

I read that it means slapped until you are still.

I've only read about this on this website.

I forgot all about this phrase.

Dop salop salai

Slapped, total knock out.

OK, I just typed "dop salop salai" into Google translate. Google is getting smart. It transliterated as ตบสลบไสล which apparently means "slapshot". No idea if the transliteration is correct.

I have heard it in the context of a Thai male’s treatment of a misbehaving wife/GF.

A “slapping”.

I'm going to remember this one.  I'm going to tell my sis-in-law to be careful or ตบสลบไสล.  We love to bust on each other, or gang up on my wife.  Known her since she was about 10 years old.

It reminds me of the old Honeymooners TV show with Jackie Gleason.  ''One of these days, Alice - Pow! Right in the kisser!''

Toap (?) is to slap, Tee is to hit, Ye-ap is to stomp or step on.  All useful in everyday conversation.

I always liked the smack-down for some low-level luggage boy on a bus who rubbed me on the top of my head.  Yes, it happened.  Give them the usual "Mom and Pop didn't teach you?  Farangs care."  Escalate that a notch and say "I didn't stomp on your Dad's head". And give the little "Hoi" buffalo grunt.  (Disclaimer:  they do have more handguns and are crazier these days.)
