BANGKOK — Cold coffee. Infused with nitrogen. From taps in tuk-tuks.

From the side of a pimped-out motorized tricycle hang a dozen taps serving cold draft coffee infused with nitrogen. The project, Nitro Labs, has adopted this brewing technique to give coffee a creamier texture, mounting its gear on a tuk-tuk to service the city.

At home we go through the long laborious process of grinding coffee beans and pouring really hot water on them. Sometimes it can take up to three minutes to produce enough for two cups of fresh coffee for both of us in the morning.

We had our first nitrogen-infused cold coffee while visiting Singapore recently, at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf shop in Marina Bay Sands Shoppes.  With added vanilla, it was really tasty.  It is astoundingly ultra-creamy and refreshingly good.  I kept thinking ‘why doesn’t somebody sell it where I live in Chiang Mai?”

What this article doesn't mention is the business was started and is run by a young Farang.  I met him and he was happy to give me some details about his tuk-tuks as I had thought about buying some for my business as well.  They sell them in Makro but he told me it's cheaper to get them from the manufacturer.

It's nice to see his business expanding.  I wish him continued success.

i tried a nitro coffee at the big food show at impact center. very nice. i told the gal i was dragging a bit today and asked if they have a helium brew (asked in thai) . # didn't get it . # explained that helium floats balloons .   still had a blank facial expression.  good luck using statements requiring association and or comparison !

How was the show this year?  I've been a few times in previous years, but I don't recall it being out at Impact.  Not sure I want to go that far.
