Soy Milk on the street

Featured Replies

Does anyone know whether or not the soy milk sold at markets and on the streets here in Thailand is healthy. I buy the soy milk without sugar. It tastes all right, but I am not sure how healthy it is to drink regularly. Does anyone know what ingredients are used? It is a good alternative to homogenized milk bought at Tesco or Bic C?

Drink almond milk, it's much more healthier.....

  • I thought soya beans were high in estrogen, so if you feel like your getting whingy / whiney nagging symptoms cut back on your doses.

In making it they boil it and it is often sold still warm. unless it has been sitting out unheated fro some time I think you should be fine to drink it. I do myself.

If you are unable to eat red meat and dairy produce like me , soy milk without sugar and other products like tofu are a good way to get your daily protein.

Do it by yourself then you are safe. There are some Stainless Steel Soy Bean milk machines on the market. Don't buy Thai or Chinese one. The stainless steel is low quality

I think fresh soy milk grom the street is much better than the one from the store.

Its just water and soy beans.

 And sugar.

But you can ask for no sugar.

Now look at the ingredients on packed soy milk from 7-11

I guess that it's also full of pesticides ?

Do you buy Diamond brand ?

You're right on that case BigT73:

" And when you consume soy protein, you’re actually courting the Mr. Hyde side of two natural drugs: genistein and daidzein. Both act so similarly to estrogen that they’re known as phytoestrogens (plant-produced estrogens). "

Drinking a lot has caused feminization including gynecomastia (growing big female like breasts)

The dose in the poison... likely a cup or two won't harm a male, but drink 2-3 quarts a day and that's a whole different ball game (meaning your balls will atrophy)

Did your  balls shrink?

I drink half a litre a day. No problemo.

Not sure if you are vegetarian, vegan or just allergic to meat and dairy.

I have been a vegan for many years.   I enjoyed soy milk but, found that a couple of 250ml cartons of unsweetened  Lactasoy Red each day caused pain in my finger joints.    I finally had to give up soy altogether except for the occasional piece of tofu or soy protein.

Did try making yogurt from soy milk but it doesn't thicken well.

One has to be careful regarding soy milk as many of the products also contain cow milk.

Found all the so called almond milk drinks here taste like water.
If you have time better to make your own.

I would never drink it. You must question the provision of the soy and the water.  Potential hazards there. Boiling the soy milk doesn’t necessarily remove them.

I personally remember my stomach feeling a little dodgy after drinking soy milk from a supermarket and street,  but at the same time I'm sure I've drank soy milk in 711 and felt ok, I guess it depends on your own gut health/capabilities, soy milk brand and where you buy it from on the streets ?

Soy milk is great if you like man boobs, otherwise I'd avoid it.

Which is probably not a bad thing if you're a woman...

I have done my research.. have you?

I know lots of people who smoke, drink, eat junk food, not eat organic, and do other unhealth things and they also have no problem...……..so what is you point there about knowing people drink soy milk?  Do you think scientific research in those subjects is 'internet information that have been debunked' also?

Please read this to help with your research.. because I did as you said and researched further and found plenty of information of the dangers of soy milk and other soy products.

Soy is perfectly healthy and is a key element of many East Asian diets.

Phytoestrogens are nto the same as estrogen and though it has been hypothesized that they might have some estrogen-like effects, studies have thus far generally failed to support this in humans.

There is only one case in the literature of a man developing breasts linked to soy intake -- one. In a a man who drank 3 liters of soy milk every day.

The Mainland Chinese love soy milk, I was in Beijing 2 years ago and found that they have many choices of Soy Bean milk machines.   I am sure some of them are of high quality.

Probably there aren't. The Chinese stainless steal differs in the dose of chromium. Chromium is important against corrosion. So again: Attention

no soy milk will not give you man boobs, its extremely uncommon, and you'd have to be drinking tons of soy milk everyday to be at risk. most people who just use soy milk on their breakfast cereal or whatever will be fine.

For what? Most certainly not for the health benefits as soy contains phytoestrogens called isoflavones that mimic the activity of the hormone estrogen in your body. Personally I avoid the stuff but you can do what you like.

I am not involved with the medical world but have done lots of reading for years on both sides of many health issues - often quite puzzling - but soy is clearly good for you - based on the most science.
