Can anyone identify this snake,  it is just under a meter long head area is somewhat orange in color

It looks like a Red headed Krait.  Venomous and potentially fatal

looks like Rhabdophis subminiatus and highly venomous. Keep the hounds away.

I don't think it is either the red headed krait or the red necked keelback.

I know I have seen it before, but I am still working on it.

not that for sure not red on the tail and not that much color, I have looked in books but can't find a picture,

i don't know what it it but i know that if the color of snake is too bright that it has a dangerous poison

Seems that's what you want to hear. 

He could be a Malayan Racer too, similar to the Copperhead Racer and even less hassle.

 

They can both get big and eat loads of rats. Definitely your friend.
