Thanks, I was under the impression that there was an exit just beyond Pattaya beach, possibly it is or is a dead end. Early reports said they found a possible entry point.

I've done cave dives in Florida and Mexico before and they're intense.  I'm guessing the local guys they've pulled in have ZERO experience.  Compact masks, "short stiffs", safety reels, and stage markers.  You get into small spaces where you can barely fit-push through tank and gear (especially staged tanks), you get spooked.   

 

Guessing these guys have never done this before and time is running out.  

 

This cave and every other in country should be closed every rainy season without hesitation.

Did you dive 7km plus caves back in Florida? It seems to me many people on this forum have forgotten how far 100m underground is...let alone pockets of water over a 7 - 10km length.

As there should be.

Things need to be discussed and advice sought. Rash actions can be disastrous.

It's not all talk either. People are searching the dense forest to find other entrances that can be enlarged. It's a massive job. They found 3 already and there may be others.

Rescuers inside the caves are also looking for smaller passages that can be enlarged to gain access to other chambers.

I believe I read that the main cave is 7km long - but if you add all the other passages, potholes and small chambers, theres probably dozens of km to be explored.

Regarding the divers. I feel sure that they are mostly "action men" like yourself. Hopefully, they have somebody level-headed in charge, assessing the dangers, looking out for them, and keeping a correct balance between risk and reward.

Just to say that an Gold medal winner can reach about 2 metres a second in a pool. A flow through a cave passage can reach much higher speeds depending on many factors.

Diving totally blind in fast flowing muddy water takes more courage than the combined courage of 50 bar-stool Thai bashers.

hope it ends well for everybody.i have never being to the caves  but i would imagine it would be a well used path if they wanted to explore the caves

I have, but not in Florida, in NSW just south of Newcastle when all the underground coal mines were still operating. The rescue squad I was with had 8 underground coal mines in the area and we worked with the Mines Rescue Squad and as an ex-navy clearance diver I was asked to train some of the others for doing flooded mines rescue, which I did. On the 28th December 1989 at about 10:30 the ground moved and 10 minutes later the emergency alarms at a couple of the mines sounded and we were required to do flooded mines rescue. Newcastle had been hit by an earthquake and we had several mines that had shafts that went out to sea and number 3 shaft at Wallarah Colliery flooded with a crew of 7 working at the head. that shaft was 400metres below sea level and the coal face was 9 kilometres from the pithead. In other rescues we did many times these cave divers would come and try to butt there frames in and it got that way we had them removed by the police, they were a pain in the a**s and it was all ego for them.

I will not criticise these divers because I know what is involved and I just wish that the mines rescue squad was still operating in NSW because they would have come and helped.

I have been following the news as far as possible and heard no more mention of the Swedish team.

The arrival of 3 UK experts at Swampy was reported by The Nation but with no information about who they are or what is their area of expertise.

Looking at the photo, we can be sure that they are not all divers (if any). My wife has been helping me keep up with the Thai language news reports and she says the Brits have special equipment to find earthquake victims under tons of rubble - seems plausible.
