Nearly everything in my Archives has disappeared, this is the second time it has happened within a year.

This is with Hotmail, has never happened with my account with Yahoo.

Is there any way I can recover them? Some of them were very important.

Please try: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/oemail-orestoremail/my-hotmail-archive-folder-is-gone/11b7b538-c59d-4b86-99fb-a9b8d3d49bed

Since these quirks exist in Outlook Mail, I strongly suggest that you backup your important messages rather than use Archive.

You mean like on an external hard drive? Or maybe just a usb stick?

I'm always sending important stuff as an attachment via e-mail to my own e-mail address. Then you'll never lose anything. Or you save it in your One Drive....?

Please install the move to- copy to tool, no viruses included.

I'm afraid that you have to copy the written stuff and paste it on an MS office word document before you can save it.

Why not sending it to your own address, then you'll never lose anything?

Each Hotmail account comes with One Drive, 5 GB of storage should be enough.

I would like to get rid of Hotmail as it cannot be trusted, but I have built it up over the years, and it would take a lot

of hassle. It's not as if there is a way everyone who emails you at your Hotmail address can be directed on to another address at Yahoo, or is it?

Like you said it gives a lot of problems if you change email adres. Personally I would not change it. But there are ways to redirect your emails. But I am not sure the free version of hotmail has this option. I know that it can be done with other email accounts.

But hotmail like Gmail is also webbased I like the web interface more then the outlook interface. I only use the webinterface from Gmail and save all my datat there. I actually never delete emails (because of business), just bought more space at Gmail so i could store it all.

I don't understand your concern, but it's possible. My account was being hijacked once, that's all. I did like Hotmail much better than the outlook, but with Hotmail, you've got way more goodies on the same page. you can go to Skype, MS Office and so many other things.

You only have to think about the options you've got on the upper left corner.

   But here's the solution:

Click "Email forwarding" in the "Managing your account" section. Click the "Forward your mail to another email account" radio button. Type your Yahoo email address in the input box, then click the "Save" button. Going forward, any email sent to your Hotmail address will be automatically forwarded to your Yahoo address.

It's a pretty easy and straightforward process to set that up. Please see screenshot, sorry it's in German, it was my first ever e-mail address.

  Just look at options............
