Joinaman Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 (edited) Hi there Just bought a new Hitachi fridge/freezer - model number R-V400PZ Let it stand for a couple of hours after delivery and then plugged it in Noticed withing 30 minutes both sides of the fridge, half way up are getting very hot, and the motor in the rear is too hot to touch Rang Home Pro who say to leave it on till tomorrow to see if it settles down , but not too sure about that any ideas why it should get so hot at the sides. Not too hot to touch, but warms up the room nicely Never had one do this before so lost as to why it should be like this Thanks Edited July 24, 2018 by Joinaman
Joinaman Posted July 24, 2018 Author Posted July 24, 2018 sorry guys, should have googled it first it seems this is normal for their fridge freezers, which get hot when the motor is working, then cools down when off but may get wavy sides due to the heat on the side walls too, but they say this is normal ? Why does the side body of the fridge feels hot? This is normal. The construction of the hot pipe is running across the side body cabinet and front side. The heat is generated when the compressor is operating, but will reduce when the compressor stops. Why does the side body of the fridge looks wavy? This is normal. The construction of the hot pipes are running across the side body cabinet which is the fridge's design specification. Construction of the hot pipe on the cabinet causes a wavy look on the surface. Seems crazy to me, never had one that gets hot like this one Just what we need in the house, a heater in the corner ! What would you guys do, keep it or send it back ?

Also when it is running, and you fill it with a lot of water, or beer on room temperature, it is normal your fridge get very warm again. Yes to make it cold inside the energy (heat) needs to be removed to the outside, (+ the heat made by compressing the refrigerant) most fridges I've seen here don't have the "external" radiator so the heat is lost through the top back and side panels which can get quite alarmingly warm... but its quite "normal" so no worries. Joinaman Posted July 24, 2018 Author Posted July 24, 2018 Thanks Guys I am replacing a smaller fridge freezer that never got hot before, so was surprised when this one did But as you say, it seems to be the norm here to get hot Just seems crazy that i run the air con to cool the room, but have an appliance that heats up the room In the UK we never notice it coming from the back, cos it helps keep the houses warm, lol But maybe will settle down a bit when it gets to the correct temperature and only get hot for short bursts But thanks for the replies guys, was getting worried when it started to get hot
Artisi Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 I have a double door Hitachi, side panel (right hand side) gets very hot - no problems after 6 years - just wish I had known and I would have vented the fridge cavity thru' into the roof space .
sipi Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Normal. A fridge doesn't add cold, it takes away heat. And that heat has to go somewhere. 1
CGW Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 I have an extractor fan just for the fridge, no worries ?
