PM nods for the establishment of government information center

Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Theeraphat Serirangsan (ธีรภัทร์ เสรีรังสรรค์) revealed that Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont has approved for the establishment of a government information center aimed to disseminate news and the work implementation of the current government.

Mr. Theerapat said that the center is launched after the government was criticized heavily with no back up for public relations.

Representatives from agencies, including the Public Relations Department (PRD), the National Security Council (NSC), the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), the Council for National Security (CNS), and information experts have been invited to be the committee of the center. Mr. Theeraphat is the president of the committee.

The government information center is responsible for gathering the government’s information on managing country and publicizing the state agencies’ performance. As for rumors causing negative image to the country, the center will clarify facts to foreign countries.

In regard to the visit of Chinese Minister attached to Chinese PM’s Office this morning at the Government House, Mr. Theerapat said that the meeting did not involve discussions on the ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra’s plan to use BTV television station of China to communicate with Thailand. He said that the meeting touched on the Thailand-China MOU in exchanging information and officials between two countries.

Mr. Theerapat has proposed China to give more details about agriculture products, especially products under FTA agreement.
