Rawai to Phuket bus

Featured Replies

You mean Tawau on Sabah?

Lived in Sabah. never been to tawau , on the east coat. Never been on a Sabah bus!

Obviously Tawau is a typo.

Reading between the lines......the poster means a bus from Rawai to Phuket Town.

He needs to visit Immigration in Phuket Town to  arrange a Non O visa.

I would advise using a taxi.

Phuket's public transport is not as disability friendly as Australia's is.

In fact most of Thailand is not so take care. It will be challenging but rewarding.

If that is the case: there is public transport, but it is a small songtaew, so not disability friendly.

I had read about a bus service starting up which would have wheelchair access. TIT.

There is a bus from Rawai to the airport, not to Phuket Town, the Smart Bus. I think that does have wheel chair access, but wont do you much good going to town.

Is there a bus service and does it accomodate wheelchairs?

This is the local bus (aka cattle truck), very quaint for tourists, and half useful as a thrill ride for schoolchildren, but not made for wheelchairs.

Considering this is the country with the worst drivers and highest death toll on the planet, their must be a commensurate amount of disabled, wheelchair bound Thais  who are simply unable to travel locally.

Nobody cares.

And that's a big one, the ones from Rawai to town are normally (always?) smaller, just pickups with covered backarea.

Are they used as songtaew between Rawai and Phuket Town? Or just private transfers? Could easily be used as public transport, as I said, normally small ones, but always?

As far as I know, public transport. He and his son drive them. I hear them go out about 5:30 AM, so way before school starts. One of my other neighbors has a big yellow Hino school bus. He leaves about 6:30 AM. Another neighbor's son has the standard pickup truck/school bus.

Don't be deceived by the times. I know one kid who lives close to Promthep Cape and goes to school at Darasamuth, could easily be he takes them on his first run around 06.00.

Plates are yellow, not blue like most school transportation. Also my wife tells me they do public transportation not school. But I guess you might be correct that the time of morning may not indicative of who they may transport.
