Twenty tourists were plucked to safety after a raft-cum-restaurant started taking on water in the estuary near Tha Laem Yang in Klaeng, Rayong.

Klaeng police said that boats went to the scene and managed to save everyone early Saturday evening.

People on a nearby raft said they heard shouts for help. The passengers were evacuated then looked on as the raft listed and began to sink.

Daily News reported that the raft business is owned by a local politician.

The local authority said an investigation is underway into the cause and what safety measures are in place and if the business has the required licenses.

I see the marine safety drive is working well.

Nothing has changed and nothing will ever change until the law is enforced with fines that make people sit up and notice.

I thought double deckers had been banned already?

Brake failure? No, the engine's flooded.

raft/
noun
  1. 1.
a flat buoyant structure of timber or other materials fastened together, used as a boat or floating platform

Everything that floats is dangerous when there are no sailors who are in charge, and yes even in fresh water.

For example, I have seen how even some big boat owners have no idea of the importance of thru-hulls and never check them in case they must be changed by new ones.

Tourists must leave their brains behind when they visit Thailand

Or maybe the "raft" had a Thai toilet - a hole in the bottom.

I think everyone has a hole in the bottom for this use.

The safety of the device or otherwise aside, where is the toilet waste and kitchen waste going?

Into holding tanks?

Hmm, like <deleted> they are
