Where do you suggest that those of us who prefer not to use an agent move to?

Frankly, if I knew it would be this bad, I've moved to Bangkok or Chiang Rai.

Unfortunately, I've already bought a house with lots of renovations done in CM so moving is quite difficult.

I don't think so. I could be wrong but they process limited number of passports/applications daily. A guy with 10 passports still counts as 10 separate applications, when giving numbers they don't consider the amount of time that each application is going to take but rather how many and If I'm not wrong that number is either 60 or 65.

You're right.

They process a limited number of passports daily, the number used to be 25 so 65 is quite a lot for them.

The agents go through the back door (without queueing) so the officer sometimes disappear somewhere presumably to process the agents' passports.

Errr. I did not say that. But I also won’t post a defaming remark as well as it is not proven.

Err, yes it is not proven that there is any shady dealings at CM immigration.

Meanwhile, O.J. is still looking for the real killer.

I have heard that they do100 Visas per day

Which would include Education and Visa Extensions

Which is on the same line for the  outside lineup

Plus the Agents go to a office on the ground floor from the main Immigration Office

Not like before in the TM30 and Resident certificate office

Maybe someone else know more

As all this has changed now with the new Boss at Chiang Mai Immigration

I don't think the retirement queue is the same as the education or visa extension queue.

In the past, retirement queue is max 25 people per day.

When did they change a new boss?

This has changed now

Obviously you have not been there lately

There has been a lot of changes with the New Boss at Immigration

Plus they have up to 4 people doing Visas in the main office now

I am not sure about the other office where agents go

I was there last month

It took ages to get my passport back

The same for one of my friends

It seems to have gotten worse instead of better with the new boss.

Last Friday, a total of 70 queue numbers were given out at 8AM to the single line that had formed overnight. They included retirement, medical and education - which were subsequently divided. It was then announced that the quota for all three had been reached for the day.

The quota restrictions are imposed on people who only want to pay the set government charges of 1900 baht. There is no quota on the back door via one of embedded agents. The more the merrier.  Regular tourists are excluded from this racket and get a straight service.

I don't know how they allocate between the three visa groups.

Let's say if education visa has 60 people queuing up on that day, does it mean that only 10 is available for the retirement visa?

Yes

The new rules

Not sure why

Maybe because of staffing

It appeared that the usual 25/20/20 split was distributed.  In the single line, however, it's difficult to know what combination of how many for which visa are in front of you - until the numbers are actually given out.  Students are fairly obvious but just "eyeballing" retirement vs medical a bit more difficult.

So the conclusion is that it is still max 25 per day for retirement like in the old days?
