Residents of four tambon in Muang Lop Buri had to scramble to save their goods on Tuesday morning after five hours of heavy downpours triggered flash floods.

Residents and officials said the muddy mountain run-off swamped Khok Toom, Nikom Sang Ton Eng, Tha Sala and Kokko.

The areas had seen nearly 142 centimetres of rain, according to local weather officials.

Several roads and the tambon business areas were inundated.

Nothing new, happens most years, same place, on the left-hand side is a concrete klong , canal, they spent months a few years ago enlarging it,try to make the water flow away and a few million baht, all to no avail.

Why not re forest the mountains to control water run off.. as well as dig drainage trenches?

The mountains are all solid  rock and have been for a good few thousand years .no soil

You could, did drainage trenches, but the water still has got to drain somewhere, 20 km away is a big lake known as Ang Sub-Lec some mountain water drains into it.

More water  could be drained into they but the cost of doing that would be even beyond the scope of this governments spending,

In fact, 350 years ago water was piped to Lopburi from Sub- Lec , to the royal palace where it was the Kings summer palace in Lopburi, and now they are trying to keep it away.

Surely they mean 142 millimeters.
