Chinese rob their own in Pattaya snatch theft

Two Haw Chinese - Thais of Chinese heritage - have been arrested for stealing from a Chinese tourist in Pattaya.

 

Kapthong Sae-yang, 21, from Fang, Chiang Mai and Denrak Sae-lor, 31, from Betong, Yala were nabbed after a chase in which a member of the public helped police with the arrest.

 

The miscreants have been engaged in snatch theft at the resort for some time, reported Pattaya Eastern News.

 

Taken into evidence was about 35,000 baht in Yuan and Thai baht, five credit cards and a brown bag.

 

The theft occurred in Na Klua 29/1 in North Pattaya.

 

As Pattaya station chief Pol Col Apichai Krobpetch looked on this morning victim Siaw Yin Go, 54, and his tour group leader did the all important pointing.

 

A third man also of Haw Chinese origin from Fang escaped and is on the run.

 

The two arrested men have been charged with snatch theft in the hours of darkness.

And this is relevant how? The perpetrators are (probably) Thai nationals. No need for the blame game along the lines of 'real Thais don't do that'...

I agree.  The perps are Thai but the adverse publicity might shave a couple of million off tourist numbers, so this goes unmentioned.

You are applying current Western PC norms to a South East Asian culture. Thais identify people by ethnicity first and then often assume that behavioural traits apply to all members of that ethnic group.
