Thailand Fishing

Hi everyone,

 

I would just like to ask if you happen to know any good fishing places that are near Bangkok that's not expensive and worth visiting? Anything not expensive means under 1000 THB.  I'm willing to travel anywhere around 1-2 hours away from Bangkok.

 

I prefer catching big fishes like giant mekong catfish, alligator gars, etc.

If you got transportation and rod and reel there is a nice fishing park in Ayuttaya with huge mekong catfish. Price 150 per rod plus whatever you pay for bait there .. add an other 300 bt.

there is an other one bor / bung nueng (also toward ayuttay but closer)

May I know how much and what species can I catch on Bun Nueng and Sakurna?

Mekong and striped catfish.. striped catfish is the smaller one.

Bit old hat but just go to Bungsamran in Bangkok.

Get a nice villa, a guide and enjoy a few beers and hauling up a few fish when the mood takes.

basically a cheaper version of Bung Samran and they charge Thais and Foreigners the same (250 baht per rod). As far as I know, theres the usual Striped and Mekong catfish, Redtail Catfish, a bunch of carp (even koi) but I dont think they have Alligator Gar or Arapaima there. A much lower chance of breaking your rods.

Basically they specialise in the Chao Phraya Giant Catfish (Pla Tepa). You can use deadbait there.

Thought of that already but I prefer to do cheaper options first. Definitely on my bucketlist!

I still like bungsamran but go there a lot less since they moved. I used to rent a locker at the old location and travel there by motorbike (not much problems with traffic that way) and then either stay at the pier or rent a bungalow depending on the day and with whom i was fishing. I did not rent guides anymore as i preferred to do it all myself, but when my dad is here he always used a guide and caught more of course.

 

Same bait same rods, but the guide is just more accurate at casting then me and can launch bigger balls. Still i like doing it myself even if it means less fish.

 

We did stop going to Bungsamran when the prices for foreigners went up too much. 2000 vs 400 for Thais is crazy, though for people like me with a license it was 400 so not too bad.

Do you have a Thai driving license.. if so.. only 400.. otherwise quite expensive.

I don't have.. But I do have Thai work permit. Does that count?

To be honest I believe it does count but you would have to ask about it. I know they accept driving licenses. 

 

Jut curious where do you live in BKK and if you are ever interested we could fish bung Pla bug together.

Work permit will work just fine.
