The drunk driver’s behaviour was bad enough. The police pursuit also poses questions….

 

A drunk Tuk Tuk taxi driver has been charged after running through red lights in Patong.

 

Patong Police report that a Tuk Tuk taxi driver has run through red lights at 4.45pm from the traffic light near Bangla road, Jungcelon Department Store and Patong Police Station.

I guess the police don't want another shooting of a runaway vehicle like what occurred a couple weeks ago.

 

arithai12, not sure where you live, but here in Phuket that green vehicle is indeed a green tuk tuk.

Just look at that car.
This is the state of transport on this island.
Surely it's time to leave the village mentality behind and join the real world.

Safety can't be assured in a converted commercial vehicle made into a "Taxi".

Time to get these off the road and get air-conditioned cars with seat belts.

In a 11 years of living here and - that - is the first time I've seen a cop in hot pursuit with the intention of pulling over someone who violated a traffic law.

 

Now if this country would implement that approach country-wide, perhaps they would only be in the top ten most dangerous roads in the world instead of maintaining the Number 1 position.

Thailand has a highway patrol but it's used to shuttle VIPs thorough traffic.
Not once have I seen them pull someone over.

The most overused line I've ever read on Thaivisa.
Phuket prides itself as a world class destination.
Just a pity that the infrastructure or amenities don't match that description.

The headline itself is a let down.

How many red lights are run in Thailand every day ?

Answer::: At least one in every light change

Moral:: It never pays to be the first away at the green light

Sat at that very same intersection yesterday and watched 6 vehicles run the red light...….it is a daily occurrence at most traffic lights here and nothing is usually done about it.

 

It seems a contradiction for a race of folk who believe in "Jai yen yen" as they hurry through red lights, oblivious to the danger to themselves and others.

The most overused line on Thavisa, and in person, said so proudly, is: "I have lived here xx years."  ????
