1st the background.

I recently placed an ad/post looking for operators for an SMS call centre here in BKK. Pay 10k plus comm.

I got an email froma guy in Seattle, asking for a job. So I say you sure about coming over the pay is 10k baht not US$. He says he loves Thailand and want to relocate to BKK fro the culture. Theres culture in BKK????

So I say what are you doing now? Unemployed

What were you doing before? in the phillippines

What were you doing there? abit of everything. (not going very well, methinks)

Then I say, make your way to BKK and we can have a talk........

his reply " I can only go over if you send me a plane ticket and a work permit"....

This guy wants a plane ticket and a guranteed work permit for a 10k job?????!!!!!!

so i was wondering how I should reply, cooly professional or tell him to get his head out of his ass?

a guy from Seattle? This could easily be Bill Gates perhaps interested in giving you billions. He's probably just interested in testing your patience and assessing your ability to keep a cool demeaner in the face of harmless stupidity! Your choice...

How about just telling him that he will have to break the law and work without a WP because the minimum salary to have a WP is 8 times more than you offer.

PS. And to get his own $%#@^&%& ticket.

If you have to ask whether you should reply professionally or not then you really shouldn't be involved in running a business.

Don't do this.... it suggests that you are unprofessional / breaking the law if you would allow him to work without a work permit. It could come back to haunt you.

There is no minimum salary for a work permit, just a minimum to get a one year extension of stay visa. People underthis minimum must do visa runs.

Answer professionally. Simply tell him that you have no budget for airfares, and that you are seeking people in Thailand / Thai nationals only. You can discuss the work permit after a review of his qualifications and a comprehensive interview in your office.

Remind him to get a non immigrant B visa if he chooses to come to Thailand for the interview!

Not even slightly believable that someone who knows enough to know he needs a work permit would agree to come over for 10k baht; furthermore by implication OP suggests that he hires some workers without WPs, which is illegal. Thread closed.
