A 12-year-old boy who was being driven to school by his mother, was crushed to death when their motorcycle was hit by a 10-wheel truck in Phayao's Muang district on Thursday morning.

The accident happened at 7.30am near the Pa Mai fresh market in Ban Mae Tam village.

The sixth grader, Kuptan Phakdee, was run over by the left rear wheels of the truck driven by Keng Puanthong, 56, police say.

The mother, Phakwan Krut-ong, 39, who was injured, told police that she was taking her son to school on her motorcycle when the truck overtook her and tried to cut into her lane.

She said she tried to avoid the truck but it continued to move left until its rear hit her motorcycle.

She said she swerved to the left but her son fell to the right towards the truck and was crushed.

Keng claimed he did not see the motorcycle while he was changing lanes. He said he heard shouts from villagers and came out to see the boy under the truck's wheels.

Keng, who tested negative for alcohol, has been charged with reckless driving causing death and injury.

Tragic, horrible way to go,some of these trucks truly terryfying, was behind two trailer cane truck few years back, driver thought he was at grand prix, driving like manaic, back trailer started swinging wildly, knew road ahead had a fairly sharp bend ,pulled over and let him go,couple of mins later proceeded, surprise, surprise, trailer had jackknifed on bend sending whole rig into rice paddies, luckily no one else on that section of road, needless to say i did not stop.

Agree, but the sad thing is, they'll not learn anything from it.

Those cement truck drivers drive like lunatics. There is not a scooter rider in Thailand who has not had a close call. RIP to the little fella. As the driver was not under the influence, just incompetent, he will pay a 1,500 baht fine and receive a two year suspended sentence.

R.I.P.

If i see a cement truck coming my way i would not swerve to the left but make a complete stop.

Logic sense that the driver not see me, so why take the risk ?

Proper driving education now please !!!!

Tragic accident yet again due to incompetence or just sheer bloody-mindedness !!!

Neither will the truck driver, RTP, the authorities etc etc etc

we all wish that there was some way we could find out about all the police reports and the actions taken by the courts.
