Nong Prue police in Banglamung were called to Wat Sutthawat in Soi Nern Plap Wan early this morning after a man was found burned to death by the steps of the temple crematorium.

Locals and rescue foundation medics used a chemical fire extinguisher to put out the blaze, reported Pattaya Update News.

The public were then kept at a distance as the remains of the body were investigated.

Many lottery tickets were found on the body. There was also a phone and bank documents and a Trat Hospital card in the name of Pheerapong Jirakunratwong, aged 52.

Monk Sanan Khuttawanyo, 73, told the cops that the temple was always kept locked at night. There was no sign of anything unusual when he rose after sleep.

As he prepared to go on his alms round he saw smoke and investigated. He immediately called the police.

Cops studied the temple CCTV and saw a 50-60 year old man enter the grounds at 5.10 am. He was carrying something in his right hand and was circumventing the crematorium before going out of view.

Then fire was seen rising up.

An autopsy has been ordered and relatives informed.

Police have yet to officially confirm what happened.

Had it been a farang, a suicide verdict would already have been rubber-stamped.

Yes, but now they have their hands full trying to find a murderer. Or, perhaps the victim (RIP) knew that he had a deadly uncurable disease, and tried to help his relatives economically by cutting out the midleman as he knew he would end up at this place anyway?
