A nurse from Satun drowned in the Phetchaburi River after her rubber dinghy hit a bridge pillar in Phetchaburi's Kaeng Krachan district on Wednesday.

Police said the nurse, Jhuthamart Langyanai, 46, a nurse of Khuan Done Hospital, drowned because her life jacket got stuck in a tree branch at the pillar.

Rescuers took about 30 minutes to remove her body because the river's current was strong and fast.

Her friends told police that they travelled in a group of 30 to stay at a resort in Kaen Krachan and they rented three rubber dinghies to float down the Phetchaburi River.

They said the boat on which Chuthamart was riding lost control because of the strong current and it hit a pillar. Her life jacket got caught in a tree branch sending her down the river, trapped under water.
