Mazuma AQ-5F-UVS Water Filter Question.

I have a Mazuma water filter system and I need to replace the post carbon filter. The ends are threaded but I can't remove the ends because of the white plastic tubes.

 

My question is this. How do you remove these white tubes? I popped the little blue tabs off and pulled on the hose, but I was afraid I would break the plastic as it was not coming loose.

 

this there a trick to this?
