A bit vague mate. What do you want to spend? Size of room? What do you want to watch?

I have an Intel NUC with W10 1809 on a 3BB 100/30 Optic fibre and Zen Mate VPN. So can get anything. Download 1080 movies from extratorrent. Audio via a pair of self powered M-Audio 8 inch studio monitor, I can't be bothered with 5.1 sound. Goes into a Samsung Series 6 50 inch telly. For me perfect. Didn't cost THAT much over the years.

I want to spend up to 10k. For watching some films. Do I need an av receiver, for example?

You describe 'smart' but what are your needs ??

Most people think of voice control in that case.. Alexa dot and fireTV is a very cheap (59 quid today in uk) package for streamer / playback.. The FireTV can run plex or Kodi, does 4k@60 with HDR.. Is surprisingly good with good quality content.

Then consider display (TV / Projector and screen) etc based on image size, light control other factors.. Then audio (at least 5.1 but can go hog wild on this side also).. Plus furnishings, sound / room treatments etc etc.

Cant recommend Ben at H3 digital highly enough.. Great guy for Home theater if your near any of his operations.

Also then you have smart lighting.. Whole home audio.. Multi zone audio and multi room video distribution.. Smart thermostats and air cos.. IP controlled locks and security.. ome security camera systems..

Once you get playing integration is everything. Its easy to have a lot of seperate parts that kind of work, 5 different remotes, etc etc.. Whats harder is to have it all smoothly and reliably integrated into a single system that hangs together, recovers from reboots and power outages cleanly, etc etc..
