Police and administrative officials early on Sunday arrested a 39-year-old man and allegedly seized from him nearly 3,000 methamphetamine pills that police said he tried to bury in Bung Kan province.

At 4.30am, Bung Khong Long deputy district chief Worasit Sangkhapan led defence volunteers in a joint search with police to arrest a drug suspect following a tip-off about drug delivery in Ban Foy Lom (Moo 7) in Tambon Tha Dok Kham. They spotted the local man Anant Onsida as he was walking up a staircase of the Mekong flood barrier and sought to search him.

Police said the man ran back and was later spotted digging up the soil and trying to bury something, which turned out to be two duct tape-wrapped packages containing 2,959 methamphetamine pills.

Anant, who also tested positive for substance abuse, reportedly told police that a Lao man had hired him for 50 meth pills to place the drugs in the area for another person to pick up later.

Earlier on Saturday night, police had seized 4,238 meth pills at a bridge on Na Sai-Na Singha Road in Tambon Sri Wilai, Sri Wilai district, left behind by two youngsters on a motorcycle, who were suspiciously circling the bridge to deliver the drugs but sped away when police approached to search them.

Only 50 million more to go!  How much do the police get per pill, I don’t remember?

Well someone, somewhere is counting them!

A bar-girl friend of my brother's friend said that it was 4240 pills not 4238; "police had seized 4,238 meth pills." So a couple have gone missing already.

The police get 3-5 baht per pill as a reward, but I don’t remember the amount.  As there are likely 10s of millions in Thailand, and passing through, that is massive rewards for the police.  Surely they are also stored and added to other busts for bigger rewards-some sold as well.  If the numbers don’t add up, then make them ????

Bang on the money Redline.

However I would like to point out that they don't count them - as in 1, 2, 3. 4 etc. - they use a triangle shape tray/device. One goes in the bottom corner; then two on top; then 3 on top of the 2 and so on. When the tray is filled there is a fixed amount on there. If the top row has 40 then the amount in the tray is 40+39+38+37+36 etc, down to the last one. In this case 41x40/2 = 820. But if smaller pills there would be more to the tray; if bigger then less. Doesn't work with weed; I've been told.

An Indian lady chemist, who I was very friendly with - nudge, nudge, wink, wink, how's your father - told me. Thinking of her now. Very hairy back. I miss her.

I figured there must be some high tech involved.  It is Thailand 4.0 after all ????
