Residence Certificate - Copies?

Featured Replies

Work permits in Chiang Mai no longer include Thai residence/address address information. This leaves those of us in apartments (no access to a "Yellow Book" if I understand correctly) with the options of 1) waiting through the lengthy process of getting a residence certificate from Immigration, or 2) paying fees for the expedited service or for a Embassy/Consulate certificate.

My question is, will copies of Immigration or Consulate residence certificates be accepted by the DLT if we have the original with us? I ask because I'd like to pay Immigration or my Consulate to get a residence certificate in a timely manner. However, I need to transfer the ownership of 2 motorbikes into my name, and get my motorcycle/car driving license. I don't want to fork over the money only to find out I'll need 3-4 originals to get all of this done.

Has anyone been able to get a driving license and/or register motorbikes using 1 residence certificate?

I've done the driving license stuff (car and mc) with one original + one copy. You'll need another original for the registration though.

I got my driving license using original RC and photocopied the original.

Then I had the photocopy signed and stamped by the officer who got my original.

With the photocopy, I went to the motorbike dept and they were happy to accept it. Make sure it is signed and stamped.

It's best to go yourself to the motorbike registration dept to confirm what I've said.

There's no need if all these are done within one month.

I had 1 original and 2 copies to do my car and motorbike driving license and motorbike registration change.

Great! Thanks much for this info, very helpful.

Hi All,

Going from an unexpired 2yr drivers license to 5 year.  Have the requirements for the Certificate of Residence changed? I have:

1. Two 4cm x 6cm photos

2. Copies of passport- Picture page, Visa page, and TM6

3. Rental contract- in Thai wife's name, bring copy of marriage cert and original.

This is what I used almost 2 yrs ago.  A lot of talk about TM30, is a copy of that now needed?  If yes, will the multi-stamped slip in my passport suffice?

Also, is it true CM immigration is taking 4 weeks to process for the "free" C of R?

Thanks in advance!
