Driving Licence Application

Featured Replies

I will be arriving next year with my Non-Immigrant O visa and wondered if it was possible to obtain a Thai driving license.

I asked this Question in the visa forum but was guided to ask the local transport office. As I'm not in CM I thought I would ask the usual CM TV members who are extremely helpful ☺️

So first is it possible and secondly what are the requirements, if there's a link that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

To get specific answers you need to state what driving license(s) from which country you hold.

Do you have a valid IDP (international driving permit) and again what country?

You will need - residence certificate - original driving license - a certified translation into Thai of your original driving license - doctors medical certificate that you are fit to drive - your passport.

Note that motorbike and car driving license in Thailand are separate but you can apply at the same time - just make a copy of the above paperwork.

Costs about 500 baht at the transport office for both motorbike and car and you do have to take colorblindness test and watch a 1 hour video.

You don't need a translation into Thai if the license is in English.
