we had a couple days of decent weather.  now it is back to a 'feels like' temp of 40C for several hours mid day.  not great for walking around, unless inside a mall !!

The temperature normally drops end of December , beginning of January. But sometimes it's just random .

It is a bit odd this year.  I would normally expect to be turning the air-con down (or is it up! ) during the night and the day time temps to be no more than 30 or 31.  Its been 33 to 36 and uncomfortably hot for late Nov early Dec. We have also had rain when it should be dry and last week a massive storm hit the place, more reminiscent of Thai summer months. Clearly the end of the world is upon us. Note to self,  get more beer in.

Winter in Thailand often means lower humidity rather than lower temperatures. Having said that, I haven't noticed much of a change this year except for a brief spell or two. Last year I had to make 6am trips to the hospital for a week and it was 8 degrees, the nurses were wrapped up in blankets while waiting for patients and they all rushed off to photograph a small lake outside that was 'steaming' as they'd never seen that before.

It is the same up here in the mountains, most strangefor December. 36C is usually reserved for the hottest months of the year, March - May.

Wait, wait, we're not there yet.

Did you notice if they had Advent calendars?

They much more chrismas decorations than in the West.

And i heared a lot of english from other asians (there were no westerners).

But the loud announcements were all in Thai.

I think the decorations are actually quite nice. Thai folks do know how to decorate thats for sure. I think its the selfie thing. But it is strange to see when you are just dripping with sweat. I dont remember it being quite this hot in Decembers past.

It is a bit odd this year.

Been odd for yrs now. It used to be when the kids went back to school beginning of Nov. the cardigans, jumpers/sweaters etc. would come out. Always found this amusing because it would be mid to high 20's. Beautiful. Not any more. Please any climate change deniers out there explain this. As an aside, Queensland, Australia is experiencing temp. highs never seen before.????

all of SE Asia's cool weather is taking a vacation on the East Coast of the USA.

The train from Ayuthaya today was hot as Hell from start to finish...caught the agent shorting me 100, and was cooler near the river in Nonthaburi.

Yes the decorations look nice, i agree.

But they use this (our religion) for sales purposes....nothing else, my thai christian friend even has to work at christmas.

We are not allowed to take budha tattoo's or to bring statues out of thailand but using our religion for sales is okay to them?

Anyway i feel sorry for the salespeople in the malls who have to listen to christmassongs all day long for a whole month in row.

I couldn't even speak to them while i was shopping and fitting clothes.

Well at least they have plenty catholic who go to church at christmas and know what christmas is all about.

And playing a christmas song now and then is okay but to play them all day long from the first days of december is far too much imo.

They even stopped with the led-lights at the walkingbridges near Central World this year, all is focused on christmas and presents now...i've never seen a krib with Jesus,Joseph and Mary in Thailand, did you? It's all about the gifts only.

Rahlly? Where you from? IN the various places I have stayed over the past few years, viz Alaska, NY, NC and Phx, I have heard Xmas Music 24/7 in the Malls starting Thanksgiving. And when I go to Malls in the states, I rarely see a creche (what you call a krib).

Its all about the gifts in the USA, has been for years. Its no doubt a secular holiday in the US...but at least I say Merry Christmas.

My gawd, dude, some scholars postulate its a Roman Pagan Holiday (Sol Invictus) to begin with. Sure it has religious signficance, but its a cultural fest now. Do you object to Songkhran, or the Easter bunny too.

Lighten up bro, pretty lights, pretty girls, decorations, smiling, presents, Santa Claus, etc. Im sure they have Midnight Mass at Santa Cruz if you want to enjoy the religious aspects.

You need "climate change deniers" to explain to you why it's been a bit hotter for a couple of days?  Why should some of those in particular explain normal weather variations?

Well the world is much bigger than the usa...ask the latin speaking countries about using christmas only for sales-purposes...they are very religious and will defend it by their teeth.

Only a christmastree is alright but playing the songs nonstop and have loads of decorations without giving the Thai christians days off for christmas is going too far imo.

My house is 31 celcius at the moment, i only open windows at the backside and that helps A LOT....but if it gets 32 i need aircon or i start sweating.

Outside i measured 37 celcius in the shade....and it's still winter.

I came to Bangkok to work in August 1997, a hot fall. Everyone kept telling me it would cool off in December. We had one cool half day on 25 Dec, then straight back to about 30-35 everyday after that season.

Freezing my arse off in the U.S., only to get much worse over the next few months... I'd love to trade you for 36 degree weather, so feel free to send it along and you can have our snow, ice, and cold.

I'm missing Thailand, where I can go outside freely, and wear whatever I want without knowing it's going to be covered up by 75 pounds of outdoor clothing in a futile attempt to stay warm.

They do this all over the world.  And Christmas music is legion, unfortunately... even my radio station goes all-Christmas (note to them: I listen to your *oldies station* to hear *oldies music*-- if I wanted Christmas music I'd put in a CD!).

Those Bangkok average temperatures are lower than what we have been getting in Udon this year. Only had 3 days below 30 since beginning of November, high of 35,5 C and often still 26-27 at Midnight. When first here in 2008-2010, had some DAYS when you needed a jacket, let alone evenings. And overnight you used a quilt. Running about 5 degrees centigrade warmer than 8 years ago. I cannot even dig the garden after 10 a.m. without shade.

Still hot and none of the colder nights and mornings yet. Disappointing.
